Photographer’s Note
This is Haga Nygata (Haga New Street) and the first day of springtime. Everyone is sitting outside to enjoy the warm sun. Haga Nygata is a pedestrian street with a lot of cafés and antique shops.
A must for every tourist in Gothenburg!
And here is some more information from Wikipedia:
Haga is a city district in Gothenburg, Sweden, renowned for its picturesque wooden houses, 19th century-atmosphere and cafés. Originally a working class suburb of the city with a rather bad reputation, it was gradually transformed into a popular visiting place for tourists and Gothenburgers. A major renovation of the area was made in the 1980s, houses were either renovated or torn down and replaced by post-modernistic replicas.
Today, Haga has a population of about 4,000 people (4,093 at 2006), compared with 15,000 people a hundred years ago – an indication of the gentrification the district has gone through.
The district was first established in the mid-1600s by Queen Kristina, making it Göteborg's first suburb. Originally, it was decreed that, since the district was outside the city walls, the area could be demolished in the event that the land was needed by the crown or in case of a threatening siege. In the 1690s, this rule was applied and 34 houses of the district were demolished in order to build a covered causeway, caponier, from the city walls to the fortress of Skansen Crown.
It was not until the 1840s that new industries were established in Göteborg, which led to an influx of workers into Haga, creating the first worker's district in the area. This led to a housing shortage during the 1870s and the establishment of additional worker's districts to accommodate the rapid growth of the city. In the 1920s, after extensive expansion of the district, the population of the area began a decline. Many public works in the area were closed and it became a primarily residential area.
A redevelopment plan drawn up in 1962 for Göteborg, which again included the demolition of buildings in the district. This led to the founding of the Haga Group, in 1970, which strove to preserve the original architecture of the area. Between 1973 and 1977, demolition work was decreased because of local pressures, and some of the buildings were even repaired by the local authorities.

Hej Gunnar,
Congratulations on passing the 10000 points threshold. An award for spending long hours of hard TE-work.
Sitting at cafés is also a pleasant way of spending time. I hope we will get many opportunities to do that in the coming months.
Hälsningar,
Gert

Hello Gunnar.
Great Springtime shot! I'm surprised it's so warm and sunny in Sweden already. We are still waiting for autumn here in the south, but the clocks were turned back today. I like the angle of this shot, making the most of the nice stones on the footpath, and the gleaming chrome furniture. I remember briefly visiting Goteborg many, many years ago.
Nice work.
Regards,
Andrew

Good morning, Gunnar.
Glad to see that your spring has indeede arrived. This shows how pleased people are to feel the warmth of the sun, but they do look as if the air is still cold. The lines and colours of the paving make a giid foreground for the group. The standing figures and the girls on the left act as a frame.
Best wishes,
Winifred

Hej Gunnar,
with snow behind the windows of my house and cold wind, and -2C outside, it's so difficult to believe that "somewhere" up to the North it is already so warm and sunny! But I know... Swedes use every chance to capture the sun!
Very pleasant scene. I like the people enjoying the weather... and the day :)
But imho, the crop at the top is too tight...
Anyway, that's just my opinion :)
Kind regards,
have a nice week!

Bonjour, cher Gunnar,
