Photographer's Note
I took a walk today along an abandoned part of the Gothenburg harbour, the Lundby harbour. The ice is now about 25 centimeters thick and people are enjoying angling through the ice. The catches here are perch (Perca fluviatilis) and whitefish (Coregonus lavaretus). In Swedish, this one is called "sik".
While I was walking along the ice, there were plenty of fishes caught, of both kinds.
I have added some WS:s!

Hi Gunnar,
Nice to see you back again! And nice to see another refreshingly colourful photograph from you.
These guys certainly seem well organised - this fellow has a beautiful bright green auger to drill his hole through the ice and a nice little stool on which to perch when catching perch! Do they ever fall through the ice? I suppose not, if it's 25 centimetres thick.
This is a wonderful trio of photographs you have presented. All are excellent but I think I know why you chose this one as your main picture - was it something to do with the bright red jacket? Drilling through the thick ice must be quite hard work and he looks like he's taking a short break and stretching his legs. In fact, it looks like he's tried drilling a hole behind him but has given up and started a new one. Strange.
Excellent composition, lovely bright light and colours, perfect exposure and exquisite sharpness.
A Stunner!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hello Gunnar,
What a colorful and well composed shot, revealing a slice of winter life in Gothenburg. The brilliant red and green complement each other. I'm surprised the man is not wearing gloves in what must be very cold weather. But then, the sun is so bright, just by turning around and around slowly in that sun, there would be a rotisserie effect of sorts. (I had a friend who was in Antarctica during the International Geophysical Year (IGY) in 1957, who demonstrated that effect wearing only swimming trunks.

Bulent

This is interesting Gunnar - Is ice-fishing a popular sport? The man seems to have incredible patience sitting and watching the action (???) Mind you, the sun is shining and it's a beautiful day. A good DL shot and nice to see the 'human' side of winter. Warm regards Rosemary

Hi Gunnar,
good winter reportage about the fishermen on ice. I like WS also. It's a bit dangerous hobby. There were a few cases of bending ice and sinking of anglers at us. Photos are well done.
Have a nice day.

Hello gunnar. Snow, ice and cold are the ideal conditions for ice fishing. But it takes a little patience. Anglers are accustomed to waiting. Who has such wonderful weather, can enjoy the day. The workshop shows the whole story. Well done, - best technical quality. Truly a good shot. Rgds, Wolfgang.

Hej Gunnar,
A red coat, a green drill and a diagonally stretched out leg in your typical square format. I understand why you picked this for your official upload. Sunshine and a bit of exotism add to the pleasantness of the composition.
Hälsningar,

Hello Gunnar,
These fishermen make me dream, because I fish too, occasionally, rarely, in Languedoc and Poitou, perch like the ws # 2. The picture, the portrait is superb. I appreciate the light, colors, details. Excellent quality. Bravo.

Hi Gunnar, I like most the WS with the three man in the similar red jackets and one in yellow looking at them with interest. I do not suppose it would be a pleasure for me to sit on the ice but they are really well equipped , specially the colourful drills are funny. I am afraid of going on ice, often it is dangerous, even if the ice looks strong. Excellent composition.

Hello Gunnar,
My best regards.

It's so intersting, Gunnar, I never knew that people had devices for drilling through the ice, for fish!
How lucky are you! Finding another person wearing red!
Excellent sharp details and a photograph that I have really enjoyed seeing.

Bonjour Gunnar

An informative photo with the workshop images finishing the story. I have never seen such a spiral drill - would be of little use where I live! Good light management. The last of your images (Altered image #1) would also be a great posting! Cheers, Marlene

Hallo Gunnar!

Hej Gunnar,
ice fishing is a popular recreation at the West coast also as we can see here. You have chosen a close pov with a perfect composition with this mans right leg going diagonal in the frame, very well seen! Warm light and colors make this to an attractive picture and a good contribution for TE, Tfs !

Hej Gunnar,
