Photographer’s Note

I was walking between the Museum of World Culture and the Universeum when I saw this smoking woman with a lot of red details. Then I saw the snake!

And the snake said to the woman:

”Go ahead, have another cigarette, it´s good for your health. And it will make you young and beautiful!”

Universeum is a public science centre in Gothenburg, Sweden that opened in 2001. It is a part of Evenemangsstråket, the thoroughfare of events – close to Korsvägen and Skånegatan – which includes sights of interest like Scandinavium, Ullevi, Svenska Mässan (Swedish Exhibition Centre), Liseberg and the Museum of World Culture.

The Universeum is divided into six sections, each containing experiment workshops and a collection of reptiles, fish and insects. The Universeum occasionally gives Swedish secondary school students a chance to debate with Nobel prize-winners and professors.

The sections of Universeum are:

"Kalejdo" - An exhibit about the human body, atoms, space, and more.

"Explora" - About communication and robots.

"Vattnets väg" (The path of the water) - The Swedish fishes and reptiles.

"Akvariehallen" (The aquariaroom) - Marine animals.

"Regnskogen" (The rainforest) - Tropical animals in
their natural environment.

"Galleriet" (The gallery) - Temporarily exhibits about how things work.

It relevant and is interpreted with intelligence. Indeed the woman, equipped in an astonishing way, cannot resist the attraction of her cigarette, the temptation of the snake. It is an good image anti-tobacco which should make reflect the smokers. Excellent realization. Cheer.

Hej Gunnar,
Another perfect composition of red and black, and of course the combination with the snake was irresistible. A great observation.
I suppose if you had taken a few steps more to the left and pointed the camera right, it would have been even more perfect, but then the she would probably have noticed you and spoiled eveything.

Hello Gunnar,

A well spotted and captured photograph, with a built in message.

Your camera seems to be a magnet for people wearing red!

The picture divides exactly into 1/3:2/3 proportions vertically, and the figure of the woman is well positioned over the lower right powerpoint. Her head and shoulders are neatly framed against the black background, in that Mondrian-like centre section of the image.

The lighting, falling on the woman from the left side is just right, and the exposure is spot on.

Now I'm not going to do one of my usual composition analysis WSs, but instead, I will offer for your consideration, a closer crop and a frame around the picture, so that the image of the snake and the woman are "pulled together" more closely.

I know you don’t use frames around your photographs, and nor often do I, but I think this is an occasion where it may be helpful.

double meaning of the title - modern Eve tempted by a snake (to have one cigarette more..), and you as usual tempted by the red colour :)). very nice composition, perfect colours. I like it very much.

I should say that you picked on a very interesting moment to take the photo (I mean the wider original version): imho, this photo contains at least 3 different subjects for different croppings!
So, this is one of them :) Very smart observation which makes it a philosophical shot :)
