Cooking, a photo from Vastergotland, Gotaland

Photographer's Note

This woman reenacts the Gustavian period (18th century) and this photo was taken at a camp at Grävsnäs. I have already uploaded a picture of her here, but she was very active and performed many tasks. Here she was cooking onion soup for the whole regiment. In the background you can see some Caroleans (17th century) and in the WS, a picture this woman and a Carolean soldier.

We asked her what she does in "civilian" life and she told us that she works for Volvo AB, as a diagnostics engineer, whatever they do.

Amazing reconstruction of the past. I'd like to back to these times for a few days too. An interesting story. Volvo is a part of Swedish history too.

Hej Gunnar,
Yes I recognize this woman from your earlier photo. It was interesting to find out about her job. I would have expected her to be a professional cook. This was certainly a suitable day for green lawns and bright dresses. You put her nicely between two white canvasses with slightly curved diagonals pointing at her. The brightness and contrasts of this picture are very good.

Yes, I remember the picture of this lady spinning very well indeed. And this picture is also endowed with the same bright colours and excellent composition. The soldiers in the background are an added bonus and I like your workshop picture of this lady again with a Carolean soldier and his tankard of ale.

Excellent composition, fine colours, perrect exposure and, as always, exquisite sharpness.

P.S. A diagnostics engineer with Volvo? I thought that Volvo cars were so very reliable - they should not need any form of diagnostics!

Hello Gunnar,

The past generation has seen a virtual explosion of re-enactors — in the United States there are Union and Confederate Troops, in the UK the Vikings, and I am happy to see the Caroleans in Sweden. The steam from the cauldron appears to authenticate the atmosphere.

I like such performances or just when guides have historical dresses. it was often in Norway, also in Philadelphia. Here I see also from Sweden. Onion soup fro all regime nt? This means that regiomant is not so big, perhaps just these two soldiers. have you tasted this soup? Atractive red west:)

Hello Gunnar,

In this country, there are many re-enactment societies whose members live history rather than only researching it. I think it's very entertaining and certainly engages with children's imaginations.
Your shot has great clarity, with the figures nicely positioned around the frame. Good, natural colours.

Hello Gunnar. Interesting photo and workshop. Here lives the past. Looking back, everything looks wonderful. We love the ritual of old customs, but want to live in the present. Anyway, where is cooked, the people come. Overall, a beautiful and worth seeing photo.

J'aime bien ces reconstitutions d'une époque, qui demandent aux participants un effort tout particulier (fabrication des costumes, retrouver des objets anciens, etc.).
L'ambiance est fort bien reproduite. Un bon moment très agréable à contempler.

Awesome capture of this woman in a period costume cooking the very old fashion way. We have a renaissance fair in Las Vegas but I missed it last year. Good lighting and good details. Wonderful colors. Well done, tfs.

These reenactment scenes are always very educative and take us to the past. A well lit image with green grass a perfect place and day for cooking outdoors. Like the tripod burner and the other cooking equipments. The lady is dressed in bright colors . I like this cheerful atmosphere.

retour deux ou trois siècles en arrière, plus d'épidémies mais moins de pollution. On y aurait gagné au change parait-il.
Un mode de vie qu'il doit être plaisant d'essayer un jour ou deux, si on fait abstraction du confort.

you have captured great lighting, sharpness, and an interesting subject.

Kind of convincing looking moment although I guess everything was not that clean in 17th century. Cooking lady makes a good main subject while soldiers at the back support.
Edge of the tent just pointing at her head is one of those funny accidents that sometimes appear on everyones photos.
