Photographer’s Note

Hello folks.

Today’s photo is from my home area. I was out for a short walk together with my two granddaughters when we spotted this rare butterfly. It is a Papilio machaon. In the link (Wikipedia) it says that it is widespread in Europe but it was the first time I’ve ever seen it. This particular butterfly had a wingspan of approx. 9-10 cm.
I took the photo from a distance of 4-5 meters. I didn’t dare to get closer, I was afraid it would fly away and get out of my sight. I used the maximum zoom (comparison 432mm) and 1/500s together with my monopod.

Resized
Sharpened
