Photographer’s Note
Hello folks.
Today’s photo is from my home area. I was out for a short walk together with my two granddaughters when we spotted this rare butterfly. It is a Papilio machaon. In the link (Wikipedia) it says that it is widespread in Europe but it was the first time I’ve ever seen it. This particular butterfly had a wingspan of approx. 9-10 cm.
I took the photo from a distance of 4-5 meters. I didn’t dare to get closer, I was afraid it would fly away and get out of my sight. I used the maximum zoom (comparison 432mm) and 1/500s together with my monopod.

Hej Per,
Marvellous photo, could be used in a reference guide for butterflies. Together with the very fine colours of the vegetation in the background, this is really an excellent shot. Why did you wait so long to upload it?
