Photographer’s Note
Hello folks.
Today I tried, for me, something different. This is not a scanned old photo, I took it today just a few hundred meters from where I live and turned it into sepia to make it look old. This is Smalspåret (narrow gauge railway) beetween Västervik and Hultsfred. The railway is not in regular use, it is only used as a tourist attraction. It is the first Swedish railway that has been listed as a national heritage. It once was the longest narrow gauge railway in nothern Europe but now the railway beetween Hultsfred and Växjö (where it earlier ended) is not in use for trains but you can hire a old inspectors bike and cycle on this part of the railway. You can read more about the narrow gauge railway here and here. The last link is unfortunally only in Swedish.
The whitest of the smokes coming from the locomotive is steam from the steam whistle.

Hello Per,
Good point of view giving this fine dynamic composition!
The diagonal movement is very good, and the engine is captured with sharp fine details...
The sepia look works well but I'm pretty sure it looks good in colour too!

Hi Per,
A lovely image, I like the way you have chosen to compose it with the space on the track in the foreground for the train to move into. Nice and sharp with good details. Sepia tone was a good choice and suits the scene very well. I like the smoke too.

Per, nice shot. I prefer the color version but that is only preference, the sepia one is also nice. I like the way you have captured the smoke wafting back along the train and the angle from which you shot it. Well seen.

Hej Per,
I like the sepia toning on this one. It fits well with the mood and the scene quite believeably looks like it could have been 50 years ago. Good high viewpoint above a rock cut.

Hello Per,
I have returned many times to this photo to find out why I find it interesting. Now I know: it was taken in the middle of summer but it looks like a winter photo. The leaves of the trees are white and they seem to be snowy. I suppose this is because of desaturation. It is a very interesting effect. I like it. Sepia goes well with steamers.
Cheers,

Hi Per,
I really like this shot very much. B&W makes it really stronger. Also a good composition here and nice framed. Congrats.

Hello, Per!
I'm an admirer of the old rail! There are many rail heritage parks in Poland, one of them is very close to my place. I like Your shot because You decided to turn it into B&W - this kind of technique underlines old character of the train, that You have shown.
regards,
Greg
