The spectacular residential building HSB Turning Torso in Malmö. Under cover of darkness it's twisting itself - in an attempt to reach higher than its official 190 meters (623 feet) - trying to reach THAT star.
Designed by world famous Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava and modeled after a human torso in a turning motion with a visible spine, the total twist is 90 degrees. It was officially opened on 27th of August 2005.
Basically it consists of nine five-story cubes, where each floor is a rectangular section surrounding the central core. And then extended with a triangular section partially supported by an exterior steel scaffold.
After the removal of the Kockums Crane in 2002, Malmö needed a new and recognizable skyline. Something showing the city's change from its blue collar roots to a new, more internationalized Malmö.
So today the building, as well as Malmö, is living a life of its own...
