Leaving Helsingborg

Yesterday I made a little trip to Sweden: the train from Copenhagen to Helsingør and then by ferry to the Swedish city of Helsingborg, which takes about 20 minutes. The water you cross then is called Øresund (Sound), a narrow water between Southern Sweden and the Danish island of Sjælland, that connects the Kattegat with the Baltic Sea.

This picture was taken just after the departure from the harbour of Helsingborg, when I was on my way back to Denmark.
Helsingborg is the second biggest city in the Swedish province of Skåne (Scania) with about 120,000 citizens.
Helsingborg was mentioned for the first time in 1085 in a letter from the Danish king Knud 4. den Hellige (Canute IV the Holy), but the probably the city is much older. The city has often been the scene for many battles between Denmark and Sweden. The province Skåne used to be a part of the Kingdom of Denmark, but after a lot of wars, the region finally became Swedish in 1658.

On this picture you can see the tower called Kärnan (the Core, the brown tower, left of the middle of the picture). The tower has been a part of the fortresses of the city, but nowadays it's visited by tourists (like me). The tower is 35 meter tall, but it is located on a hill as well.
The red tower left of Kärnan is part of the city hall.

Since I took this from the ferry, I was not very stable when taking. So I had to sharpen the picture a bit. I cropped the picture too and I added a frame. (yellow to create the colours of the Swedish flag in combination with the blue sea and sky.
I hope you like this picture.
