Photographer’s Note
Tjolöholm was acquired in 1892 by the wealthy merchant James Fredrik Dickson (1844 – 1898). Since the old mansion was in poor condition at the time, Dickson announced an architect´s competition in 1897, for a new building in Elizabethan style. The task of designing the new castle went to the 27-year-old architect Lars Israel Whalman, who also designed the gardens and workers village. James Fredrik died of blood poisoning shortly after construction work had begun on the new castle, and his wife Blanche had to take over. The extensive construction took six years and the castle was completed in 1904. The interior is characterized by exquisite craftmanship, and the castle was equipped with some of the latest developments of the early 20th century, such as electricity, central heating and surround showers.
The English-inspired gardens are made of terraces, walls and tightly cut hedges. The plants and flowers primarily fulfil a decorative ornamental funtion, such as the climbing roses along the walls, plentiful rhododendrons and flower beds boasting a colourful array of different flowers with a wide range of aromas. The rectangular patches of lawn and the original grass-steps are other distinctive features of the gardens.

Good morning, Gunnar!
That's a really uncommon architecture! A bit "British", but only a bit... ;-) A bit like a castle, a bit like a factory - in my opinion not very cosy. The composition of the photo is chosen skillfully and I like especially these natural colours here.
Greetings from much more cooler Germany (3°C this morning)!

Hello Gunnar,
Reminds me of Scottish Baronial style with a touch of Victorian Gothic. I like the point of view looking over the stone wall; it hints at a sense of seclusion. The family group walking past contribute to the sunny mood. Very good light with colours and clarity to match. Well done.

Hi Gunnar.
Absolutely stunning clarity and detail in this photo of a most English looking scene. I think you did well to include the people, who add colour and add to the pleasant atmosphere. The path makes a gentle diagonal to contrast with all the perpendiculars of the architecture. A delightful shot, beautifully taken.

Andrew

Hej Gunnar,
It's slightly embarrasing to admit that I've never seen this fine and very special building. You found the probably best possible POV and were also lucky to have some people and a red element passing by. The composition is nicely balanced with equal parts of green and blue and with the trees and bushes nicely framing the castle.

Hej Gunnar,
This phot gives a feeling of something from the 70ies with the people walking and sitting on the grass. I dont know what it is but I like the in front of the building, it makes it more living.

Hej Gunnar,
imho, the perspective view looks great! I like the horisontal slope and the people walking along it - it creates a little dynamic effect and enlivens the static view with the building in the backgruond :)
I like the rich sunny colours very much: they create a very cheerful mood.
Warm regards from Moscow,
Elena
PS. It may sound very curious (maybe your photos with "red elements" are "contagious" somehow? ;)) but now I tend to notice scenes with "red elements" almost everywhere in Moscow! LOL More than that, I take photos of them..... LOL
