Photographer’s Note

Tjolöholm Castle south of Goteborg is the only Tudor castle in Sweden. It was built 100 years ago by a rich family, Dickson. But mr James Fredrik Dickson died before the castle was built. His wife Blanche decided that the castle should be built anyway. The people who lived in the castle were not happy. Mrs Dickson died on a voyage to Ceylon and was buried in the Indian Ocean. Her daughter Blanche, married Bonde, got four sons and was after that divorced. I have met her youngest son, he was over 80 years old then and told me that was the first time he saw the whole castle. As a child he and his brothers were not allowed everywhere in their home.
On the other side of the castle is the sea and the surroundings are very beautiful. It is now owned by the community of Kungsbacka and a popular place to visit.
