Photographer’s Note

Picture taken at the Höga Land (High land) coastline of Gotska Sandön National Park, just north of Gotland. This island is actually a large sand dune in the middle of the Baltic sea, and was created when the ice coverage of the last ice age dissappeared. The scenery on this island is spectacular. The name of the island means "the Gotish Sand island" in english. The island is shaped somewhat like a diamond, 9 km long and 6 km wide. Since it is a National Park only about 100 persons are allowed on the island at the same time. You can go there during the summer by boat from Nynäshamn (just south of Stockholm) or Fårö on Gotland. It is well worth a visit. Be advised to bring good hiking shoes/boots because you will have to walk around the island to explore it. And walking is rather tough too. You are most of the time walking on sand paths, and it feels like you slip a half step backwards for each step forward you take... The beaches are really nice too, shallow with nice sand at some places. And there is no risk for crowds... I highly recommend a visit here.
