Photographer’s Note

I wonder if Gunnar know this place. It is not far from Gothenburg. We spent there very nice evening in our way from Norway to Danemark. I have read once about this particular path in internet but I can't find it now. The spot is of historic importance as there was a big sea battle there.

For Gunnar, of course.

The naval Battle of Dynekilen took place on 8 July 1716 during the Great Northern War, when a light Dano-Norwegian force under Tordenskjold trapped and defeated a similar Swedish force in Dynekilen fjord (just north of Strömstad), on the west coast of Sweden. 80 percent of the sailors and 90 percent of the soldiers in Tordenskjolds force were Norwegian. The Swedes had been escorting troops from Göteborg (Gothenburg) to Fredrikstad.

The Dano-Norwegian flotilla defeated the Swedes, who had arranged their ships and boats defensively, and destroyed a small island fort equipped with six 12-pounder guns. The largest Swedish ship, Stenbock, was surrendered, after which the lighter vessels were run aground and abandoned. A Swedish land force then arrived, forcing Tordenskjold to quickly leave, taking with him some of the captured Swedish ships. The rest were destroyed. The Dano-Norwegian force suffered 76 casualties.

Hello Malgorzata,

A bucolic shot wich invite to discovery with teh way on the right and the alke on the left. Very pleasant prospect effect and great depht. The alignement of tree and its shade give rythm and dynamism to the image.

A special light and a special atmosphere in this photo, and one feels it has a special meaning for you. There is a fine sense of depth and distance, one wonders where this path leads... and it's a pity you didn't say more in you note...

Hello Malgorzata,
How very amusing. At the first glance at this photo I thought this part of Poland looked extremely Swedish. I have no idea where this was taken but it looks like home anyway. A very appealing composition where the narrow road curves nicely behind the trees. There is a fine view of the lake and the distant church, and the tree to the left balances the composition well.

Nice shot, well composed and with warm colors. There is a lot of depth in the image and the gap in the trees has been well exploited.

Yes, this looks definitely much more typical Sweden than your previous Swedish picture. I also thank you for the kind dedication!

I can´t say I recognize the location, but your note about Dynekilen makes this place quite easy to find on GoogleMaps. The geocodes, where I believe you took this photo, must be: 59.01584 1.23028. The church in the background is Hogdal church. I must have seen it many times, as this is very close to the new motorway to Oslo.

This is a very fine picture and the old road here certainly looks very inviting for a walk, maybe we´ll stop here next time we go to Oslo!

So this is Dynekilen, the place where this guy from my home town trashed the Swedish Navy one fine summer day in 1716..!
Looks peaceful now though...
It is a fine balanced composition, inclusion of the pine to the left is wise!
