Photographer’s Note

This impressive tower is called Fars Hatt (Father´s Hat) and it is the northern tower of the Bohus Fortress at Kungälv. There is also a smaller tower called Mors Mössa (Mother´s Bonnet).

It was built in 1308 by the Norwegians to protect the border against the Swedes. The fortress also gave its name to the whole province, Bohuslän, which was a part of Norway until the Treaty of Roskilde in 1658, when it became Swedish.

As there was no need to protect a border anymore, the fortress was left to its decay.
