Photographer’s Note
Today all Swedes have celebrated the Kings birthday.
Another tradition this day is to set huge piles of branches left over from the gardens at fire this night and sing songs to welcome spring.
Thanks,
Magnus

The way you have captured the fire is wonderful. The branches showing through the transparency of the flames is great and the texture of the fire itself is awesome. Good framing. One tiny bothersome thing is the lady on the left with only a partial face.

Brilliant colors in the fir andin the sky, Magnus. I like the way that evryones fet away from the heat and the different acivities around - the photographers, the ids and the adults. A nice shot.

Fan ! Du var snabbare !! :D
You have a nice light here. Our fire in Stockholm was bigger :o) but unfortunately later, so I don't have as nice colors as yours ! I like the compo you choose, leaving some people in the foreground. I think it reflects better the fact that everybody is envolved this evening.
Okej, det är tid nu för att sova lite... Gott natt !
Youssef.

Hi Magnus, what a great fire, you have captured this difficult bright light very well. You chose also a very good POV, trying to show better all the fire and avoiding the people.
I like the colours of all the scene, it seems to have a nice sepia cast.
As I have said in my last critique, it is very curious, you do fires to welcome the spring, and here in Catalunya, we do fires to welcome the summer, in the night of 24 of June, in the day of Sant Joan, with the shortest night of the year.
Best regards Magnus, and thanks for sharing it!

I'd like to see more people in this picture.. I think that would be a nice addition. Celebrations are about people.... not things... and here we have a fire that takes up most of the space. So, i'd probably go on the other side of the fire and try to shoot from there as it seems more people are standing on the bottom of the picture than on the left.
here we go - an honest critique (as you desired)
As for compliments - the color of the fire is very very REAL.
cheers,
krzysztof

Hi Magnus, An interesting tradition to have an open fire to celebrate the King'g Birthday and welcome the spring. It looks that next to water is a nice place to have open fire.
A nice action photo. Have fun and enjoy the party, the celebration, and the spring.

Hi Magnus,
It's seems to be all Royalty today. We have our Koninginnedag (the birthday of the Queen) today (and only this year her silver reign jubilee) and you celebrates the Kings birthday.
I must say that the Orange of the fire fits very well with the Orange of the Dutch Royal house of Orange. And of course the orange of our excellent football team.

Hej Magnus,
Nice traditions and the warmth of the fire is well transmitted by your nice & clear view, and happy birthday to your king (is he Carl Gustaf ? less known as he does not populate the headlines like the british royal family !)
Have a nice sunday,
jean-Yves

Hej Magnus, jättefin bild! Gillar den häftiga energin som bålens flammor förmedlar, man kan nästan känna hettan. Gillar också det rosa skimmret på himlen. Bra gjort!

Quite an action shot, Magnus. Very effective. A nice background as well, contrasting the peaceful water with the fire. Well done.

Hilsner,
Lars

Hi Magnus,
This is pretty impressive. Excellent exposure work. The colors are so vivid and vibrant, the foreground is in great contrast with the background.
pretty huge fire. How long does the ceremony last? the whole night?

Nice fire, Magnus -- beautiful shapes and colors. BTW, we have exactly the same tradition in the Czech Republic to celebrate April 30 by big fires. I believed it has old Celtic roots, but Celts were not in Sweden. Interesting.

Hi Magnus. Boy where you busy posting while I was away! You don't see fire very much on TE but it looks great. The oranges and dark reds look so intense and realistic. Very nice shot Magnus. Oh BTW I posted another space shuttle shot just for you! ;)

Bonjour Magnus,
Daniel.

Hi Magnus,
we have the almost same tradition here (the big fires in the night) but at 5 January!
I have tryed to render well the fire (with not too good results...) so i appreciate very much how do you have rendered so well the fire together with sky and readable peoples.
(perhaps the 'nordic' night isn't so dark as here!)
Interesting and nice to see, thanks for sharing!
ciao, Giorgio

The colors of the fire are very well done. Id like to see a photo with a tigher POV of the fire, Im sure that it would be very impressive. Burning things as a way to welcome spring is alos done in Poland, and Im sure its done all over the world.
