This is the first of a next to come series of photographs of different street lamps existing in my city Barcelona. The ones of the pict are located in a former textile factory built in Modernisme Català style (Art Nouveau). Let me tell you something about it.

Casimir Casaramona i Puigcercós (Vic 1838 - Barcelona 1913) commissioned the famous architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch (Mataró 1867 - Barcelona 1956) to design a factory for his textile-production enterprise. In addition to being a widely acknowledged architect whose works included the Amatller, Macaya, Quadras and Terradas houses, Puig i Cadafalch also played a leading role in the art-nouveau movement alongside Gaudí and Domènech i Montaner.

Puig i Cadafalch completed the Casaramona factory in 1911, culminating his art-nouveau period with it. The building features the simplicity and clarity of the thoroughly worked-out masterpiece: its bare brickwork is topped by Catalan vaults resting on castiron columns and enclosing light-filled, spacious workshops. Its response to the triumph of the horizontal that was characteristic of the local Gothic style is presented through the rhythm of its battlements on the one hand, but also and more particularly through the bold aspect conferred on the building by its two slender towers. It was awarded the City Council's prize for the best industrial building in that same year.

The Casaramona factory was closed down just seven years after its opening. After that, it was pressed into service as a warehouse during the Barcelona World Fair of 1929, and in 1940 it was converted into stables and garages for the National Police Force. "la Caixa" acquired the building in 1963, and in 1992 it was decided to return this building of great artistic value to Barcelona and to the country as a whole, while lending it a new function with social, cultural and educational aims, it thus becoming Caixa Forum.

Esta es la primera de una serie de fotografías (que iré colgando aleatoriamente!) de diferentes farolas de mi ciudad Barcelona. Las de la imágen se encuentran en una antígua fábrica textil, construída al estilo Modernisme Català (Art Nouveau). Voy a explicar algo mas de éste increíble lugar.

Casimir Casaramona i Puigcercós (Vic 1838 - Barcelona 1913) encargó al famoso arquitecto Josep Puig i Cadafalch (Mataró 1867 - Barcelona 1956) el diseño deuna fábrica para su empresa textil. Además de ser un arquitecto apliamente conocido por obras como las casas Amatller, Macaya, Quadras y Terradas, Puig i Cadafalch también jugó un papel determinante en el movimiento arquitectonico art-nouveau junto con Gaudí y Domènech i Montaner.

Puig i Cadafalch termminó la fábrica Casaramona en 1911, culminando con ella su periodo Art-Nouveau. El edificio destaca por la simplicidad y la claridad del material trabajado, ladrillo rojo desnudo rematado por bóvedas apoyadas en columnas del mismo material. El edifício fué galardonado por el Ayuntamiento ese mismo año, cómo mejor edifício industrial.

La fábrica fué cerrada siete años después de su inauguración, y así estuvo hasta el año 1929, en el que se convirtió en almacén de la Feria Internacional de Barcelona. En el año 1940 fué reconvertida cómo establo y garaje para la Policía Nacional. En 1963 "La Caixa" adquirió el edifício, y en 1992 se decidió devolverlo a la ciudad de Barcelona por su gran valor artístico, adquiriéndo desde entonces una nueva función cómo centro social dedicado a la cultura y a la educación, con el nombre de "CaixaForum".
