Photographer’s Note

Casa Milà is one of the most famous productions of the well-known architect Antoni Gaudí in Barcelona. It is now included in the UNESCO World Heritage list and is located on Passeig de Gràcia, important arterial street in the heart of Barcelona, in the central district of Eixample.

This building was constructed for Roser Segimon de Milà, Pere Milà’s wife between 1906 and 1910 and it is also called La Pedrera, which means « the quarry » in Catalan, because of the wavy aspect of the building facade. This qualifier was originally pejorative and highlighting the organic aspect of the construction or the lack of what was considered at that time a real architectural project.

The building does not include any straight line, and the facade is conceived so that it is impossible to draw a line from the roof to the ground. Very few appreciated by the promoters, who will qualify it as « horrible », they refused to pay the wholeness of Gaudí’s wages. After the trial engaged by the architect and lost by the Milàs, this one decided to offer the recovered money to a monastery.

Casa Milà is today one of the most visited monument in Barcelona. The access to the inner courtyard is free, and it is possible to visit one of the apartments and the rooftop that you can discover on this image and which has been conceived as a vast wavy terrace opened on the city.

Hello Christian,

Un bon point de vue pour nous présenter ce batiment étonnant ! Je me souviens avoir chercher un angle pour saisir le même sujet mais je n'avais pas été convaincu ! Ici, je trouve excellente l'idée de mettre en parallèle ce monde de petite fenêtre et celui de la "surface" avec ces personnes de pierres.
C'est bien vu !

Hello Christian.
I recognised this building immediately in the thumbnail. You have taken an unusual shot of it, using the undulating roof line and the pattern of the small windows to advantage in the composition. I like the presence of the people, and the way those strange carvings stand out against the cloudy sky. Good exposure and the finished product has good colour rendition, not too saturated. Well done.

Quelle architecture étonnante.
Je n'ai jamais vu cet endroit, mais d'après ce que j'en sais, le point de vue me paraît très bien vu pour rendre toute l'originalité de cette architecture.
Les immenses statues combinées aux nombreuses fenêtres comme autant de yeux, en font une composition intrigante.
Très bien vu, bravo.

Tu as réussi une bonne composition pour présenter de belle façon cet immeuble pour le moins original. J'aime également les teintes de l'ensemble avec cette lumière plus douce créée par le ciel nuageux.

Bonjour Gary,

Evidement, le bâtiment est magnifique. Ce fou de Gaudí y est pour quelque chose, mais les personnages sur ta photo, cela tient du miracle tant ils sont parfaitement postés! Ils ont une position qui est tournée symétriquement vers les bords... C'est tout simplement la grâce absolue; HCB aurait été heureux de réussir cela.. ;-) Et Hop dans mes favoris!

Great shot from Barcelona a very intersting city of architecture,not only because of Gaudi`s fantastic work.Your POV and composition are excellent here.The facade with it`s curve and the nice arrangement of windows looks great.I like too to see some people at different positions.
A very good exposure with good natural colors and great contrast.

J'adore cet endroit... qui ne l'aime pas du reste?
Tu as merveilleusement joué avec le mauvais temps et ces nuages gris qui s'amusent avec le gris de la rambarde ! Gris et jaune/rosé, cela fonctionne parfaitement.
Un bien beau cadrage avec ces fenêtres sous la vague où déambulent tes personnages.

C'est très étonnant.
J'ai déja vu un cadrage plus serré sur les architectures.
Je pense que le mur nécessite une certaine restauration.

Bien curieuse architecture, on aime ou on aime pas mais en tous les cas ça ne laisse pas indifférent !!! Bon cadrage de l'édifice ici j'aime bien l'inclusion des immeubles colorés en arrière plan à gauche. Ce ciel chargé fait bien ressortir les tons du bâtiment. Curieux mais au final c'est assez photogénique. Merci pour la note intéressante.
