UPDATE: I think that the "star" on the right is actually a planet: Saturn. Can anyone confirm?

Last night, the Earth, the (full) Moon and the Sun formed a perfect line. That produced what we call a total moon eclipse. It could be seen from Western Europe and the Eastern Americas. I was so lucky that after a day with some clouds, the night was perfectly clear.
The Moon, which was in the Leo constellation, let us see the stars thanks to its dim light. In the WS, a wider view of the sky with more stars visible (and many others too small to be appreciated this size).
Photographing the eclipse was a real challenge. On the one hand, because it started after 1am and finished at 5am... And on the other hand, my equipment isn't the best for this kind of shots: no cable release and a cheap tripod weren't the best of situations. I've taken lots of photos of the Moon, but never with long exposures like here, so this was a new situation. All in all, I'm happy with the results and I don't regret having slept so little, because the view was worth it :-)
Edition consisted of levels to bring out the stars and curves to brighten up the moon a little bit, plus the logical resizing, cropping and sharpening.

Esta noche la Tierra, la Luna (llena) y el Sol estuvieron perfectamente alineados produciendo un eclipse total de luna. Fue visible en Europa occidental y América oriental. La suerte fue que después de un día con algunas nubes, la noche nos trajo un cielo totalmente despejado.
La Luna, que está en la constelación de Leo, nos deja ver las estrellas a su alrededor gracias a su luz apagada. Como WS he subido una visión más amplia del cielo con más estrellas visibles (y otras que no se aprecian a este tamaño).
Fotografiar el eclipse fue un auténtico reto. Por un lado, empezaba después de la 1 de la noche y terminaba alrededor de las 5... Por otro lado, mi equipo no es el mejor para estos cometidos: carecer de cable disparador y tener un trípode baratito no es la mejor de las situaciones. He sacado muchas fotos de la luna, pero nunca con exposiciones largas como aquí, así que la situación era nueva para mí. Pero al fin y al cabo, estoy contenta con los resultados y no me arrepiento nada de haber dormido tan poco: el espectáculo valió la pena.
La edición consistió en Niveles para destacar más las estrellas y algo de curvas para que la luna estuviera un poco más iluminada; y por supuesto recorte, tamaño y enfoque.

Hello Ines,
you've done a great job here. I like the details you managed to get from the moon, very clear and sharp. I also like the way you've composed the pic with the moon well placed off center with the two little stars balancing the compo. Very well done!

That's a really good result Ines. I am glad to see you thought about composition with the stars as so many simply place it in the center. Exposure is spot-on revealing nice details and colour on the moon. I wanted to capture this myself and maybe in regards to a nearby landmark but it was at an early hour (not that this would deter me) but it was cloudy. Excellent work.

Boas noites noites,
así que hoy has dormido poquito ¿verdad?, pués al igual que yo, pero por motivos bien distintos, o tal vez no, ¿no dicen que cuándo hay eclipses los niños lo notan? Es cierto, ha sido una noche movidita.....

Vamos a hablar de la luna porque el dormir poco ha valido la pena, y te ha quedado impecable, y con estrellas incluidas!! Interesante definición de imagen, gran trabajo.
Y una curiosidad: ¿desde dónde la hiciste? porque no se aprecia nada de contaminación lumínica, está muy clara. Te felicito Inés ;-)

Y hablando de dormir vamos a ver si pasamos mejor noche! Bona nit,

Hola de nuevo Inés:
Estupenda crónica "galáctica". Por supuesto que me gusta, básicamente porque desde Granada no pude verlo en vivo debido a que el cielo estaba nublado pero, y esto es lo más importante, porque has aplicado un magnífico encuadre dejando algo de cielo nocturno y unas cuantas estrellitas para acompañar a nuestro querido satélite. Parece mentira la de veces que vemos a la Luna allá arriba y todavía nos sigue atrayendo. Ha valido la pena robarle horas al sueño, porque el resultado es magnífico.

Hello Ines,
You did an excellent job with the lunar eclipse. I read your critique when I critiqued Shelly's excellent "poster" showing each of the phases of the lunar eclipse. We had cloudy skies in Denver, Colorado. I am quite, but not 100% sure, that the star on on the upper right is Regulus and indeed this is Saturn on the lower part of your photo. My star chart for March from "Sky and Telescope" magazine confirms the pattern. The two tiny apparent "diffraction spikes" on the lower "star" look very much like Saturn's rings. Taking shots of the moon anytime is much more difficult than people realize and the phases of the lunar eclipse are even more difficult. Like Shelly O'Brien, you did an outstanding job and I am very impressed!

Eres muy modesta, has hecho un magnífico trabajo, lo digo bajo mi punto de vista ya que soy incapaz de hacer unas fotos de la luna y de las estrellas como las que nos presentas, por lo tanto mi felicitación y mi aprobado por tu trabajo.

Una foto interesante,me gusta el color de la luna,y esta ahi,tan alcanzable,me gusta que se vean los detalles de los grandes mares y Tycho...,insisto,tenemos que hablar un dia de estos de objetivos...
Sobre la estrella de arriba a la derecha creo que es Venus,y que Saturno estaría fuera de vista,más abajo a la izquierda,y Regulus arriba a la izquierda,fuera de vista en esta foto tambien,en la foto del WS si se ven.Ya te mandé unos datos para que los compruebes y decidas tú mejor.
