[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note [Spanish]
César Manrique Cabrera (* on April 24, 1919 Reef; † on September 25, 1992 Teguise) was a painter, sculptor and artist lanzaroteño. He combined his work with the defense of the environmental values of Canaries. He looked for the harmony between the art and the nature as creative space. Europe Nostra obtained, between others, the World Award of Ecology and Tourism and the Award.

He was born on April 24, 1919 in Reef. After the Spanish Civil war it joined the University of The Lagoon to study technical architecture, but after two years it left the career. In 1942 his first individual exhibition (Reef) takes place. After obtaining a scholarship of the General Captaincy of Canaries he travels to Madrid to study in the Top School of Fine arts of San Fernando in 1945, where it graduated as teacher of art and painting. With the heyday of the surrealism in the decade of the 50 there founded the gallery Fernando Fé, the first not figurative gallery of Spain. During this epoch it realized murals in Lanzarote (as that of the Airport of Guacimeta and the state-run hotel of Tourism of Reef) and in the peninsula, and it exhibits his work in several countries.

In 1964 it moved to New York where Catherine Viviano exhibited, between others, in the Gallery and had contact with the artistic North American currents.

In 1966 he settles definitively in Lanzarote, island that began to develop the tourist sector. During the decades of the 70 and 80 there takes place an important activity as creator of spaces perfectly integrated to the natural environment of the island. Also it took part in projects in other islands of the archipelago and other places of Spain (as the Commercial Center The Stream bed 1983 in Madrid).

In 1988 it moves his residence to his new house of Haría, built and decorated by Manrique and publishes " Writing in the fire ".

He died in a traffic accident on September 25, 1992, next to the head office of the foundation that takes his name, inaugurated in March of the same year.

His house, constructed in 1968, making use of the natural space of five volcanic bubbles. It is the current head office of the Foundation César Manrique and in the same one it is possible to appreciate part of the work of the artist, as well as works of other artists, who are a property of the foundation. It has more than thousand meters of inhabitable surface, in two levels.

Two WS with different captures of the interior.
