Cathedral Santa Creu Photo

Photographer’s Note

A night shot of the cathedral Santa Creu in Barcelona, taken with my old Olympus IS-3000. The gothic cathedral faces onto the Plaça de la Seu in the centre of the Barri Gòtic area of the old town.

The cathedral stems from the 13th Century but the Mock Gothic façade was not actually completed until the 1880’s by the architects Josep Oriol Mestres and August Font i Carreras, taking inspiration from a drawing from the 15th century by Mestre Carlí.

Tech-details:
-to capture the whole cathedral I had to use a wide-angle converter (converts to 28mm)
-I recall to have used the max. possible shuttertime of the IS-3000 (being 15s)

Post processing details:
-used Paintshop's clarify tool at 10%
-ran the sky part through NeatImage
-PS work: cropped to improve symmetry, added 5% Contrast, and used Unsharp Mask to sharpen the picture after downsizing

The shot has a perspective towards the sky.It`s nice.The color of the sky is very strong point.

Dat is weer een tijd geleden Edwin,
Je komt dan ook wel weer met een hele mooie, Prima compositie, die het waarschijnlijk in zwart wit ook prima had gedaan, erg goed werk hier.

A great view and perspective, I like the symmetry and the entire view of the facade. The light and colours are beautiful. The towers shapes are well "drawn" in this deep blue sky. Good PP also. Very well done.

Perfect symetrry, and excelent tight frame, Edwin. Usual the clarify tool reduces the quality of colors, but the brown tones are very special. The clarify tool effect is used very gently, not too much.
Sky is wondeful, any PP there?

slpendid night shot Edwin! Lots of details and very interesting gradiant of colored light from bottom to top. The blue background sky give a strong contrast and detach the cathedral in a very nice way. The centered composition is very well chosen. It looks BIG! and it surely is! :-)

Although I feel the photo is a bit oversharpened it makes a great image of this beautiful monument.

I like the centered POV and even the geometry distortion work well increasing the imponence of the building. Very nice colors.

Wonderful photo Edwin. I like the dark climate of the photo even emphasized by the frame. Great idea of taking the photo of gothic cathedral at night. One thing - a bit of flash left on the photo on the right-You could remove it by darkening this part of photo a bit more.
