In a nice night the Roman aqueduct of Segovia stands out from the lights of the city as it had an own soul.
Amazing that this old monument (Unesco's World Heritage) is still up after more than 1'900 years. The more that 20'000 granite blocks that make this beauty are united without mortar, cement or concrete. These big stones have been balacing for more than 19 centuries in which the city (as many others) has had a long history of good and bad facts, big celebrations and sad battles.
The part of the arches of this aqueduct which we can see complete here is 728 meter long and 28 meter high (in its highest point). But the aqueduct is more than this. It is about 14 kilometres long and transported water from the close mountains to the city until 20th century.
And Segovia can offer more: a cathedral which of late gothich style, perhaps the last gothich cathedral in Europe, a fortress (El Alcázar) that hangs on the rocks and was inspiration for Disney, the Royal Gardens of La Granja, and, and, and.
