Salamanca: Main Square
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Salamanca, founded in the pre-Roman period. A very old city that was part of the Roman province Lusitania(first day of our trip to Lusitania). The city was called then Salmantica or Helmantica. The old city is listed as World Heritage by Unesco.
Remarkable are the old roman bridge of the first century of which about the half is still original and the University which was founded in 1'218 being the oldest University in Spain.
Other places are "la casa de las conchas" (the house of shells) and this "plaza mayor" or main square which was finished in 1'755 designed by Alberto de Churriguera.
The square contains the city hall (on the left side of this picture) and has almost the shape of a square: the longest side is 82,6 metres long and the shortest 75'6. The square has 88 shaded arcades. |

Hola Clemente!
