Lonja de la seda Photo

Photographer’s Note

This is a stitch of three photos. With this I think the distortion of a wide angle lens is reduced. They were taken inside the Silk Exchange Market (Lonja de la Seda) in Valencia. This city has not only modern buildings like those of Calatrava but also arts master pieces like this one, inscribed as World Heritage by Unesco in 1996. Here is the text of the Unesco home page:

"Built between 1482 and 1533, this group of buildings was originally used for trading in silk (hence its name, the Silk Exchange) and it has always been a centre for commerce. It is a masterpiece of late Gothic architecture. The grandiose Sala de Contratación (Contract or Trading Hall), in particular, illustrates the power and wealth of a major Mediterranean mercantile city in the 15th and 16th centuries.

The Committee decided to inscribe the nominated property on the basis of cultural criteria (i) and (iv), considering that the site is of outstanding universal value as it is a wholly exceptional example of a secular building in late Gothic style, which dramatically illustrates the power and wealth of one of the great Mediterranean mercantile cities."

Buena simetría y sí, efectivamente la distorsión apenas se nota. Yo cortaría un poco por abajo y ¡chapeau!. Saludos, Clemente.

Hi Clemente,
Beautiful picture and an interesting info.
You remark about the distortion did make me look extra to it. I think that you maybe have correct it a little to much. The columns in the wall (especially on the left) are strictly vertical and have no vertical vanishing point. The columns in the middle do have a vanishing point and they all should have the same vanishing point. Always very difficult to correct this thing. I’m always struggling with it.

Hola Clemente, estuve en Valencia a finales de Enero, y pude visitar un poquito la ciudad. Entramos en esta Lonja y visitamos esta espectacular sala que nos muestras. La verdad, cuando vi tu foto, me sonaba de haberlo visto, y cuando me di cuenta aluciné, la verdad no lo recordaba tan "guapo" como lo has conseguido. Las fotografías de interiores son difíciles, pero aquí lo has hecho perfecto. Me encanta esta luz tan uniforme por toda la sala, el reflejo de las lamparas en el suelo, las personas (aunque no me gusta cogerlas en mis fotos, me refiero evidentemente a turistas), en este caso, ayudan a magnificar el gran volumen de la sala. Muy bien hecha.
Por cierto, usaste trípode? Recuerdas el tiempo de exposición?

Hola Clemente.
Ya he visto el truco de la foto y la verdad que me parece muy currado. Pese a que si sabes los "fallos" se ven, pese a esto has corregido la distorsión muy bien.
En la antigüedad había edificios que para corregir también las distorsiones ópticas hacían construcciones en donde, por ejemplo, las columnas tenían una ligera inclinación.

En todo caso, me gusta la composición y la luz y color de la foto.
