A view of the platform where the lifeguard watchs from.
The actual lack of lifeguard probably had a lot to do with the small number of people on the beach (late September is no longer high season) and the green flag.

I don't know if this is done in other european countries with popular beaches, but Spain indicates the swimming safety of the sea with a flag system:
Green: Safe to swim
Yellow: Be careful (specially with little kids)
Red: Swim at your own risk (if sensible, don't swim)

Shot in the afternoon, with a gentle breeze rippling flags and cloths... I decided on this shot out of the many I took since it seemed to evoke the end of holidays and the beginning of the autumn season...
