La Alhambra: the classic view from Plaza Mirador de San Nicolás in El Albaicín on the hill opposite the palace.
A bit of a postcard; a bit of a cliché; a bit of a mugshot. But I'm not going to apologise, as the combination of the light, the location, the snow on the Sierra Nevada, and above all the stupendous pile in front of me just demanded a photograph. Well, several actually. Tripod, 1/2 second @ f/8 in deep dusk.

have you tried a tight vertical crop with only the bold tower and a bit of palace? (tough to describe but: 1/4 from the left until 1/3 from the right - to make the shorter edge)
It looks to me like it's the contrast between snowy mountains and sky with low lingering clouds in the background which gives this image it's real impact. Tight crop could emphasize this more, as the right side of this image weakens the role of snow in this scenery...

Hi Will. I love the excellent exposure here by which you have retained the details of the surroundings, which in the foreground could have been lost, while the complex itself is lit in an understated yet charming light. The snow capped mnt adds to the wonder of it all. Beautiful work. Best wishes. Klaudio.

Hi Will, lovely view of the Alhambra from the Mirador de San Nicolas, very well composed and captured by a great POV with excellent and beautiful photography. Wonderful image of a lovely place, good sharpness, nice lighting and quality. A beautiful job perfectly done, congratulations my friend. Thanks for sharing this interesting work.
Good afternoon and happy weekend.
Warm greetings from southern Spain.

Hi Will - I am impressed by the smooth and beautiful colours and tones in this composition; the sky is really lovely, its softness making a marvelous backdrop to the architecture and the contrasting snow-covered mountain. Good clear detail throughout this very attractive image, perhaps not your usual style but a shot that has great appeal.
Warm regards Rosemary

I like the softness of the picture taken at the blue hour, the illuminated fortress color contrasting gently with the blue snow covering the mountain in the background.

I am a postcard person so I love it. I have never seen it so perfectly done. I had the pleasure to visit this place and considered this POV for the blue hour but then I read that this spot is a paradise for pickpockets and not entirely safe after dark so I decided to stay after dark on the other side of the hill IN Alhambra. It was not interesting though... So I am really jealous. I feel like I have to get back there to take a similar photo to really feel that I have been there.
Fantastic light, nice processing, excellent work,

First class Will. Pin sharp where it matters and expertly taken. Love the subtle colours in the sky contrasting with the illuminated palace. You certainly chose a good time of the day to take this one.
Kind Regards, Ann

Beautiful picture with harmonic colours! I like your photo very much.

this is one of those photos where we really do have to click on it to fully appreciate it.
from the small thumbnails its hard to see what it is, but here in this larger format its fully appreciated.
and hey, don't apologize for it being a bit of a post card type of shot...admit it, we all like postcards :)
When you visit a city on a holiday, do you not view the post cards to get an idea of city views? I bet most people do :) Me included!
wonderful soft light, striking the structure perfectly, I wouldn't change anything, especially the atmosphere.

Stunning capture. Although I have seen shots of this place before, they tended to be snippets, a tower here, a room there, and this is the finest image of the entire thing I have ever seen. Such perfect light and such pin sharp details of every part, while the depth afforded by the snowy peaks in the distance is just superb. I love the tint of mauve to the sky too.
And for the postcard thing, I consider that to be a great thing. If a picture is beautiful enough to be printed and sold, then its a fine picture indeed, and I would gladly pay for a copy of this were I visiting this very cool place.
All the best

I was there at the end of December at the blue hour but the snowcapped peaks weren't that good visible then.
This is the picture that I dreamed to take but I couldn't ...
I really like the clarity and the sharpness of the walls and the buildings of the Alhambra and of course also its colours in contrast with the blue sky and the snowy peaks.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Will, Magnificent view of the Alhambra in nigght and I would be very happy with the shot like this. Perfect composition, light and so on. Marvelous view. stunning capture.
Have you visited Alhambra in the night? I have read it is the possibility of the visit after 10 p.m. I think it can be nice opportunity for original shots. I even changed my schedule . I will be in Granada in May.
Have a nice weekend

Love the warm light & colours catching the Palace, contrasts beautifully with the snow capped mountains! This is lovely composition well coped slow shutter and sharp in focus. I like that you've left the fg dark to emphasise the light on the hill top. Awesome capture, TFS

Splendid image of the Alhambra at dusk. Sharp, many details to enjoy. Beautiful with the white mountain in the background, and good inclusion of the tree to add depth. A tiny detail: I'm perhaps a disgusting cheater but I would have masked the two spotlights at the foot of the wall. (So now you know that I can sometimes slightly enhance the reality!) Like Craig writes, I do watch postcards for sale to get an idea of what's around and the points of view, but sorry for the sellers, I never buy.
Good week-end, Claude

So that's where you have been! Great time to visit Granada when the Sierra Nevada, appropriately to its name, is covered with snow (it disappears later in the year).
No reason to apologize - I'm convinced this IS the best viewpoint to shoot Alhambra from. Besides most tourists satisfy themselves with a snap taken at midday and you have got a brilliant example of dusk photography here.
Greetings from Poland :)

a master class in evening photography,a fine shot that has been thoughtfully composed and captured, there is just enough light left in the sky to complement your choice of exposure setting.
With detail throughout the frame and a sublime colour palette it`s cracking shot, love it.
Best regards Les.

Excellent shot of the palace during twilight hours. The photo is well divided into attractive layers. The well lit palace is nicely sandwiched between the dark FG and the snow clad hills in the BG. Superb photo with natural light and colours. Nicely done. thanks for sharing.

Nice "blue hour" picture. I particulary like the golden tone of the stone standing out the landscape and the sky. May be a postcard, but postcard are made of good pictures.

quelle belle lumiere.....

Forget about the cliché! The photo is wonderful and the place really deserves it. The Sierra Nevada is a perfect background and you had the best moment of the day, I suppose, with a beautiful blue sky and the lights showing the details of the palace. Great quality for sure!
