One of Córdoba's many attractions is the Mezquita, the Cathedral of Córdoba. I have previously uploaded photos of the internal details of the cathedral, this is a detail of one of its outer walls.
The Mezquita began life in the year 600 as a Christian church dedicated to St Vincent under the Visigoths. It later became a mediaeval Islamic mosque and was later converted to a Catholic cathedral when the Moors were ousted from rule. At one stage, the church was divided and both Muslims and Christians worshipped here. Now it is exclusively Christian, although many Muslims visit here to pay their respects. The cathedral is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen, combining the best of Moorish, Romanesque and Gothic architecture.

yea yea yea, row row row, moorish power go go go! :))
if a time machine existed, i would have loved to see those times when both the christians and muslims prayed there. it should have been one of those rare times of humantiy when religion did unite people rather than dividing them. and that beautiful architecture is a solid testimony of those days. so, time machine can wait, i just need some flight tickets to get to see it :)

I spent two days in Cordoba. It is a superb city and the Mezquita one of her highlights. I like the details very much and also the angle you took.
We can feel the texture and the attention to details.
Have a great day and perfect holidays,

Interesting diagonal view of the elaborate classical Mezquita, reminiscent of the triangle slope. Zoomed in focus enhances the varied and excellent Moorish artwork, like geometry gone wild.
I would love to visit Cordoba, etc. some day.
In the meantime I will continue to enjoy Nature's temples of the West.
Stay warm, healthy and celebrate the Holidays,

What a beautiful place, and to think this is an exterior wall? Wow, I rarely see that in shrines never mind the outside! Its amazing that through history buildings like this have changed hands and changed faiths, and it seems that in so many cases what was at the time a tragedy for those residing turned into a special place for the historians of today. Looking at your example, or thinking of Hagia Sofia or some of the churches of Rome, its one of the few times when religious battles can leave a beautiful legacy. I have never seen the combination of styles that you refer to in your note but can appreciate them greatly throught your capture.
Stunning earth colors and amazing intricate details.
We must both be feeling a little holy for Christmas today, I'm posting a church details too :) Its the ghost of Christmas I tell ya, in the new year I'm back to being a ghoul!
Have a wonderful weekend, and a happy jolly merry wonderful Christmas to you and yours!
All the best

Buona Domenica,Luciano

An interesting history Lisa and a place of worship that has reflected the changing world of Spain. Imagine Christians and Muslims using the same building for worship, now that's cooperation and perhaps a time in history that we could learn from! Exquisitely fine detail in this architectural detail shot. The craftsmanship is beautiful. Nicely composed, the colours are delicate and harmonious. ZTake care my friend. Rosemary

The subtle patterns and the textures are mesmerizing. Congratulations and thank you!

Indeed the mingling of styles is clearly visible. In this tilted composition, which works beautifully with all the flowing patterns, the details on stones are a beauty to behold. Excellent!
