Photographer's Note

Hello friends and colleagues , today I propose to look a while the Ria de Vigo , with steles islands in the foreground and the Cies Islands in the background, a view from the castle of the city of Bayonne , in the Rias Baixas , Galicia . Hope you like it , then some letters on the major islands .

Cies Islands , belonging to the municipality of Vigo , form an archipelago at the mouth of the river of the same name , in the Rias Baixas Galicia, in the province of Pontevedra ( Spain ) , consists of three islands : North and Monteagudo , the Middle or South or do Faro and San Martino . The first two are joined by a breakwater artificially and naturally by the beach of Praia de Rhodes. They are oriented in a system of parallel fractures NS coast . Are approximately 14.5 km from the city of Vigo. Were declared a natural park in 1980 , and are included in the National Park of the Atlantic Islands of Galicia created in 2002 .

Monteagudo Island is separated from Cape Coast Home in Morrazo Peninsula , on the North Channel , and the island of Saint Martin on a stretch of about 500 meters known as Freu da Porta . Meanwhile, the island has finished do Faro attached to the North Island by an accumulation of sand on the inside of the archipelago , on the east side of the island , which is the beach of Rhodes, of 1200 meters. At high tide , the water passes between the two islands on the west side and plugged by the beach , filled the lagoon formed between the sand and rocks. The highest peak is located in the northern part of the island of Monteagudo , in the Alto das Cies , of 197 meters and has a land surface of 434 hectares.

Its geological formation is of late Tertiary , when the subsidence occurred in some parts of the coast , which permeated the sea and created the estuaries . All Atlantic islands are the peaks of the coastal mountains that were partly under the sea and consist almost entirely of granite .

The three islands are mountainous with steep west face with almost vertical cliffs over 100 meters and numerous caves ( Furnas ) formed by sea erosion and wind. The east face is somewhat milder slopes covered by forests and scrub and is protected from the Atlantic winds , allowing the formation of beaches and dunes.
