Pedraforca. I don't know if you can find other mountain like that. It's in the Pyrenees, no really high (around 2.500m), but a good place for trekking and climbing. This mountain has inspirated many legends around it.
Note about Pedraforca and the Natural Park:
The Cadí-Moixeró Nature Park, with a surface-area of 41,342 hectares, is the largest in Catalonia, and extends into three different areas: Alt Urgell, Berguedà and Cerdanya.
The park has been declared a special bird protection zone (ZEPA) by the European Union and, in accord with EU's Habitat Directive, its incorporation into the European Nature 2000 Network has been recently proposed, as it is the protected area of Catalonia of European interest with the most inhabitants, and species of flora and fauna (30 in each case),
The Nature Park, a mountaneous region, lies between an altitude of 800 m from the lowest valley bed and 2,648 m at the top of Canal Baridana, and is considered to be of great interest for its wide diversity in geology, vegetation and fauna.
The Park comprises the pre-pyrenaic orographic conjunct and constitutes the Cadí and Moixeró mountain ranges, which are mainly calcareous in nature, and includes the massif Pedraforca, as well as a good part of the Tosa and Puigllançada ranges as well. |
