Photographer’s Note

Court of the Myrtles
- continued

... The norther portico was originally covered bya single-slope tiled roof and with a turret on the left (as seen from the patio).
It's twin, on the right, was added in the 19th century in an attempt at a symmetry that never existed.

There are two floors above the southern portico; the first has seven windows closed with wooden celosias; the upper floor is a gallery open to the courtyard through six arches and a central opening. The wooden lattice screen is late 19th century.

At each end of the porticos are these beautiful alcoves, spaces for respose, called alhamíes; one of them here depicted in all its decorative splendour.
