Photographer's Note
One of the many narrow streets in Ciutadella, once the capital of Menorca. The streets had been busier earlier that morning but by late morning people like this little old lady were heading back home for lunch and to avoid the heat of the midday sun.
Shot in RAW and converted and edited in PSE9.

Hello John,
I know for sure that my simple Ixus could never properly handle these contrasts. It takes a better camera and a better photographer to produce a result as fine as this. The hard shades have become an interesting pattern and part of the composition instead of spoiling the view. The woman with her red paper bag, shining like a little lantern, is well placed at the start of a long but attractive street.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi John,
An excellent picture, with the narrow street slightly curving and the lady at the third... The street is completely empty, except the lady (and the photographer). No mad dogs either! Is the lady British too?
Kind regards

Hi John,
It's a beautiful midday photo. I always love these tiny roads between tall buildings. The half shadows of the buildings on the roads are creating the magic in this photo. The the human presence is adding the punch. I think a bigger aperture (arroung f/4.5) would have been a better choice here. the throughout sharpness is not working that well here.
have a wonderful week.

Hi John, You are now so busy posting, I am a bit late with critiques. As Gert pointed out, the light is so strong, deep shadows and we can still see everything clearly. Maybe RAW allowed you to do this. Lovely composition , I imagine how hot it must be, between these rows of houses. And also very nice with NO CARS. Great depth and interesting colors, all houses very similar. Siesta time and all look deserted.
Warm regards
MAlgo

Hello John - A study in terracotta earth tones in an attractive alleyway. Your choice of the vertical format shows the full height of the lovely buildings and emphasises the diminishing perspective. The lady with the bright orange bag is nicely placed within the frame, did you stand and wait for her to "hit-the-spot" I must say you managed the strong light really well. Nice work. Have a good week. Rosemary

Hi John,
I love the composition of your image. As you give depth to the lady on one side and all the narrow building.
These colors are so warm besides I give a lot of warmth in the place ... (and wonder the lady did not go for the shade!)
I do not know why but when your image is a Mediterranean lady reminds me of my grandmother. Perhaps she is the typical Mediterranean grandmother!
Have a nice week!!

Hi John.
Perhaps the best shot you've uploaded from your Menorca trip. Composed well to make the most of the slightly curved and narrow street's strong perspective effect, and well timed to catch the purposeful stride of the bag-swinging pedestrian who is perfectly placed moving into the scene. The earthy/ochre tones and the strong light and shade are superb and you've managed to bring out the vague clouds in the Spring sky. I's remarkable that there is not one other person in the street! The sharpness all the way down the street is exquisite.

Andrew

Hi John or should I say "hola"?
I like this scene, the empty streets, the lone lady rushing home probably to cook lunch and then have a siesta. The colours are wonderful, so natural and well-rendered. And you've also done a great job with managing the extremes of light and shade. Nice work. Have a lovely day.
Cheers
