Taken in the same location as this picture but from a different viewpoint, the Fish Market in Ciutadella was a wonderful place for photographic opportunities - much more appealing than the rather "sterile" fishmongers' shops which we are accustomed to seeing in Britain. Lots of different varieties and species of seafood were on display and for sale here. And, again unlike in Britain, the local people seemed indifferent to our cameras.
Apparently this market normally exists in an enclosed building but that building was undergoing reconstruction and refurbishment. So the market was temporarily being held in the city under canvas - much better for lighting and photography.
This was another photograph taken during a wonderful holiday in Menorca with Philip Dunn.
Shot in RAW and converted and edited in PSE9.

A good and crisp picture of daily life. It seems , from your note, you too like it this way. And same for us in India, where fish is usually sold this way.
Picture clarity is superb,be it the creases on the buyers face or the scales on the fish.
Good contrast and depth of the scene.

I enjoy market shots and the array of fish on display is wonderful here, what a choice one has and it looks super fresh. Nice and sharp throughout showing the activities going on with the bying and selling. A good daily life documentary.

Umm, something fishy going on here...
On your previous fine post of this market, I suggested the top section was not helping, bare canvas cables etc, and on this one its missing. Can I claim the points ?!
Whichever way, this is another fascinating scene of daily life that we in the UK just don't see any more - so much the the pity.
Quite what is on the mind of the lady to the rear is anybodies guess, a very quizzical look; the patient expression you have caught on the lady to the fore is marvellous.
This version is more interesting to me, from memory at least, as apart from the missing aforementioned ceiling, the back drop is interesting and colourful.
A real slice of daily life. A grand photograph; one might even say , looks good enough to eat !
PS is this a good capture, a merely a good catch ?

I love all things seafood, and fish markets really hold a fascination for me. They always attract interesting customers and usually the vendors make great subjects - as here. It's also a wonderful place to accost the good cooks - like this signora here - and snavel a few good recipes. Some of my happiest moments in Sicily were dealing with the fishermen off the boat at 7am to get my fresh mussels and fish. Anyway, to your photo. The sharpness at f/10 is excellent, the light is good particularly considering the uneven light in ouside the market and the colours are wonderful.
Great job, happy eating
