Old Lady at her Door, Ciutadella, a photo from Menorca, Balearics

Photographer's Note

An old lady stands in her doorway in the old part of Ciutadella, Menorca.

Ciutadella, in western Menorca, was once the capital of the island but the capital is now Mao (Mahon) in eastern Menorca. Ciutadella, however, remains a beautiful and interesting city with busy little narrow streets and fascinating architecture.

Shot in RAW and converted and edited in PSE9.

P.S. For Ann (annjackman), I have added a little workshop picture. This is to show that I was not alone in photographing this elderly lady - I was there with a group of others on a photographic holiday organised by Philip Dunn.

Hello John - I love this type of image; I think it is the old-world clothing that does it for me! The ladies always seem to wear black headscarfs, black stockings etc. and here we are with the lady in the doorway, classic. Looks like she is the victim of junkmail - perhaps she is looking for the postman to give him a telling off! Nice shot, well done. Best regards Rosemary

Hello John,
I like this even better than Pedro from yesterday. I thought Rosemary summed it up well - fashion doesn't seem to change in certain parts of the world for the senior generation and is very predictable. The lady just partly emerging through the door is a classic subject and you have done a great job on this.

Hi John,
Another well composed picture with this lady as the main part. The WS is also very funny, with all the other photographers. Were they waiting for her to open her door or how come they were all standing there? Did they have an appointment?

Hello John,
You have shown a sudden surge of activity on TE lately. This is another fine portrait where to me the light and colours matter as much as the lady.
But poor woman, how she had to suffer! When I pester the locals with my camera, at least I do it on my own :-)

Hi John!

This image is very representative of Ciutadella, because this lands show the calm, the friendliness of this peoples...
Maybe with a frame you will complete the scene but is only my opinion.
