This is Peniscola on the east coast of Spain, near Valencia. The town is characterised by a mediaeval castle and church in historical district. The place is delightful both in terms of scenery and the many excellent restaurants that line the cobbled streets. We were fortunate enough to visit at the time of the Peniscola Festival, with fireworks, music, amusements and sensational food.

A beautiful slow photo from Spain - your first ever from there I think. I look forward to lots more.
PS Good to see aunts reading to Nieces

A well managed nightshot, beautiful light capture, interesting village and lights reflections, good idea for the FG taken with a good wide angle effect.

This place has a curious story tale that shaken the Christian world in the 15th century: Read here a Wikipedia page about the runaway Pop, the Papa Luna . Interesting and unique story.
We were there in 3/2000, do not have good photos from there - but the place is overwhelming sight.
Well taken this night shot, illuminated castle and the fine seashore in FG.
Have a nice week ahead,

as I see not only Ireland you´ve visited.I´m getting more and more curious of your new series.
This is a marvelous picture to start your series from Spain.Blue hour makes a beautiful backdrop for Peniscola, which is so nicely lit up.Also the water is very eye-catching element of your composition. But the most I like the inscription on the sand-really nice idea, which helps you to create so unique, lovely mood of the scene.
I´m looking forward to see more!

So your European tour reached Spain. And you found your favourite seaside landscapes there too. Very nice light on that text on sand. The castle area looks too, though some parts are overexposed. Looks like this could be a good candidate for HDR.
macondo (18461) 2013-10-06 2:20
A nicely exposed night shot, with slow shutter. Water must have been still as there isn't too much of the 'milkshake' effect. The slow exposure has made everything very clear and sharp, and most importantly, noise-free. I think I last went to the Valencia area about 35 years ago, might be more! I do recall it was very hot. The text in the sand really makes for a great foreground. I won't ask how it got there. Only trouble with these higher res files we can upload now is that they often don't fit on the screen - this one just makes it if I switch the browser to 'full screen'. But it looks superb when shown in full resolution.

love this! An amazing angle and smile inducing scrawl in the sand to add to the effect and impact of this beautifully executed night vision. I particularly like the diffused light at the waters edge it adds to the magic and sensitivity of this striking image. Bravo!
Enjoy your Sunday - Brian.

I trust you enjoyed your trip to the Northern Hemisphere. I see that it wasn't only Ireland that you visited. A well exposed night time image, beautifully composed along classical lines. Lovely reflections from the lights across the silk like waters of the bay. Excellent colour contrasts and very good clarity.

Hola querida Lisa,
this is a picture of sensational beauty, the royal blue and the shiny golden tones in the background make a fantastic combination, you've enhanced their impact in a most skillful and effective way. I also love the elegant perspective and how you've balanced the impressive view of the town with the significant inscription on the sand:) The Z-shape layout you've created in the vertical frame is superb. Wonderful work, congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great week,

Hello Lisa - There is much to enjoy in this shot; the FG detail is captured well with some subtle colours in the sand and the reflections on the sea are beautiful. For me, and I hope you don't mind me saying so, the exposure on the town is unbalanced. Excellent on the LHS but the RHS is overexposed and detail is lost. I wonder if it would be possible to rectify this is your PP? It is such a pity as the shot has so much going for it in other regards. Have a great Sunday. Rosemary

photoray (6638) 2013-10-06 4:26
I am very envious for both your sojourn to this romantic place and the excellent photo art work. The village in the dark radiating warm light across the water, surrounded in blue tones, and the sand petroglyph.
Noel_Byrne (13234) 2013-10-06 4:56
Big smiley head on me looking at this :)
I always admire so much the ability to create this glassy light show in the sea, it looks solid like a mirror. I love that you got this composition to include the writing of the message in the sand too, creating such a brilliant sense of depth to the scene. Fantastic light and architecture, and all under that enviable blue hour lighting. Class!
All the best from the emerald isle!

Long time no see.I recognised your style as soon as I saw the picture. Very nice message in the sand and very nice light in the city by the sea.We were so close to each other, me in France and you in Spain.
Have a nice day

A masterful shot at blue hour
I like the warm colors, the reflections and the nice sentence at FG to lead us into the image
have a nice sunday, best
abmdsudi (32471) 2013-10-06 6:09
I love the warm tones of this cracking night capture. The shooting angle, the sandy foreground and the sensational water reflection together smoothly lead into the prominent superbly. The long exposure has produced some terrific light, colours and good amount of details that you have managed to retain. The star burst effect catches the attention too, its clean and pleasant so well set off against the dark night sky. You did pretty well here, indeed a joyful shot, Well done, tx for sharing.
holmertz (31226) 2013-10-06 6:39
This is really a magnificent picture from the blue hour. The surface of the sea is so calm that it rather looks like a perfectly frozen lake somewhere far north. And maybe that is actually the Christmas star shining from below the citadel. I am impressed to see the written message so miraculously saved from footsteps and waves. Maybe someone had made it just moments before you arrived? :-)
gojo (1317) 2013-10-06 8:07
Fantastic combo of FG, reflections and main object. Unusually good night image.

Buona serata,Luciano
PaulVDV (17217) 2013-10-06 9:38
WOW, a splendid blue hour shot!
An excellent POV to show the town on the hill at the end of the small bay. The water has reflected so many different colours.
Peniscola looks very attractive with the walls protecting it at the sea side and with the castle towering above the town.
Best regards, Paul

Spectacular night capture in great light management. I like the composition and the spotted message from the beach.
Have a fine new week.

jcpix (6504) 2013-10-06 18:37
Well, hello there Lisa!
Wisely timed photo, the blue hour light is the perfect compliment to the colors rendered from the artificial lights. I like how the longer exposure has not only created a glass appearance on the sea, but that it also bends the reflection towards the shoreline...getting brighter as it reaches the converging point of the beach itself.
And then there's of course the foreground message...what a terrific idea, it adds that personal touch to the entire moment taken here. A real beauty, this carries a very pleasing sentiment all around. The only thing missing now are footprints in the sand fading of into the distance. :) Have a great new week!
Cheers from desert,

Ciao cara Lisa, You made wonderful trip - Ireland, Italy, Spain, what else?
Fantastic night shot of this impressive fortress. What reflections! And who wrote it on the sand? Maybe your LF was so enchanted by the place?
To be there during a festival with firework must have been sensational experience.
Have a nice week
ChrisJ (91200) 2013-10-07 4:15
I love (te amo) the blue and yellow color contrast here. It would have been perfect to get the entire curve of the bay at right to give an unbroken elongated 's' shape to the composition, but we can extrapolate from the superb details shown here. Good textural details in the fg sand and sharpness is impeccable. Have a great week!
Silvio1953 (105381) 2013-10-07 6:18
Sonata11 (31199) 2013-10-07 7:37
Hi dear Lisa,
this composition of Te Amo is capture spectacularly. Your POV and DOF are an excellent. Colors, sharpness, clarity, lighting are magnificent. Perfectly well done. I love it.
macjake (45574) 2013-10-07 14:54
So did you write that in the sand?
good use of the 30 sec exposure, thats my favorite type of photography as its always exciting to see the results on the back of the camera! Like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get :)
the only thing missing here are some sweet puffy clouds, but unless you have super powers thats a little out of your control :)
of course i'm going to like these blue hour shots, and who can resist the reflections. Wish I was there!!!!
enjoy your holiday, but i'm sure its already over.
Cricri (92095) 2013-10-07 22:53
Hi dear Lisa
Belle journée a toi
gervaso (9247) 2013-10-08 14:45
The blue hour and the lights of the castle give excellent colors to the picture, making it really attractive! And the reflections on the water are also great! Excellent quality and wonderful composition! Well done!

Welcome back. I have not been here as much, I didn't even know you were gone, not that I don't miss you. Kind of busy and not inspired and connection is not great.
Well finally here I am again trying to comment on this image for the 2nd time. It is a very good shot, what you have captured so well here is the mood of the place, the romantic quality, the soft texture of the light the wave that washes on the beach, living a silky texture to the sand. The inclusion of the foreground of a love you message makes it even more compelling and more romantic. Love you 2013, 14, 15 and many more year to come :)
rigoletto (32746) 2013-10-09 13:41
oh, i was mistaken to think that you were only in ireland, valencia has been a surprize! why, i always encountered this spanish city with the works of calatrava, now this is a good proof that there is also something medieval in there. while admiring the long exposure details, i couldn't resolve the meaning of the inscrpition. it could both be "it is 2013 yet, but damn, i still love you" or "what a wonderful year, i love 2013" :)
fabbs99 (11030) 2013-10-09 19:42
Namaste ! This is amazing stuff.Great colors and sharpness. The use of tripod has given an extra edge to this lovely image.Very well done,TFS.

you captured wonderful image.the reflect of lamps on water exist fascinating composition.
EstudioChispa (1694) 2013-10-10 14:47
Oh, my goodness, Lisa! There is so much WONDERFUL about this shot that I don't know where to start! It has your signature long-exposure touch, but the TE AMO in the sand is FABULOUS!
I have tried my hand recently at some long exposure stuff -- it's harder than you make it look! But then again, "the great ones make it look easy," they say!
And *snicker, snicker* -- is the name of this place really "Penis Cola?" ;-)
serp2000 (33061) 2013-10-10 19:59
Very nice and smart composition with so attractive picturesque background and this amazing foreground. Excellent choice of the point of view!!!
Best wishes from Russia!

Cia cara Lisa,
Wow!
PS: Mio padre sta bene, grazie amica.
adores (30783) 2013-10-16 14:54
You came to Spain? Very good night shot! The exposure is great and you made something different by adding the words written on the sand in foreground. The star effect of the lamp and the reflections on the water add a lot. I like it!
tyro (15679) 2013-10-19 11:39
Ciao cara Lisa,
I have just commeneted on your last picture from Italy: this one is of a similar genre but the foreground interest, albeit most likely added by yourself, really does add to the picture immeasurably and helps create tremendous depth in this image.
Your composition is excellent, the curve of the water's edge leading us perfectly from the foreground inscription to the brightly lit buildings in the distance. The reflections on the smooth water are delightful and the colours, perticularly on the foreground sand, are simply sublime. And all topped off with a manificent deep indigo sky.
Gorgeous light and colours, bang-on exposure and exquisite details and sharpness.
Juzo (4284) 2013-11-07 3:04
I spent a few hours in this town, this shot reminded me of that brief day and I dug out a single old analogue photo I took here in 2001. I almost forgot I had been here as I had the hangover from hell, or should I say, I was still a tad tipsy from a long sleepless night in Barcelona (on my way to Madrid I think..). Such faded memories of youth!
Great shot, your signature blue hour, the contrast of gold/blue, the smooth textures, it looks beautiful.
