Pyrrhocorax graculus

Medium-sized corvidae is one of the few species linked to the high mountains, and it is unmistakeable because of its striking yellow beak. It nests in mountainous rocky places, and in Navarra it inhabits the highest areas. It does not shy away from humans, and you quite often see them flying around people. It is related to the red-billed chough (Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax), which is very similar, except for the red beak, and is less common.

This picture I did in the Sierra de Urbasa (Navarra) after a painstaking approach to the birds. Despite shoot with a telephoto of 400mm not getting near enough to get an interesting picture. Although in the end it got ...
