Europe desert! Photo

Photographer’s Note

Yes, it's truth, it's a desert and it’s in Europe concretely in Spain. Moreover it's the biggest desert in Europe and it’s a biosphere reserve from the UNESCO. The name is “Las Bardenas Reales”. It’s situated on the north of Spain inside Navarra, where there is a very big contrast between the green and mountainous panorama of the Pyrenees in the north and the southern desolate and desert landscape. And you can pass from one to other just driving 80 km. The landscape can be described as a cuesta landscape with mesa shaped highs, steep slopes and deeply dissected valleys.

That place is fantastic and when you are inside, you don’t know where to point the camera because everywhere there are great rocks, nice textures or big panoramas for make a wonderful picture. It’s really a very amazing place.

We were very, very lucky with the weather because all afternoon was cloudy and we expected for the worst. But, in the last minute, just on sunset, the sun appeared for some minutes, enough for take eighth or nine good pictures and here one of they.

A fantastic landscape that I didn't know about..although I have a house in the Pyrenees (but french side..) so great...we don't need to travel to the Gran Canyon anymore! ;o) Beautiful light and colours! Bravo! Léonie

Xevi, this is EXQUISITE. Marvellous shot! The clarity and colours are impeccable, and so is the setting! Wonderful! You have everything in Spain... What an amazing country!

Really great landscape picture, sharp, nice colors, grandiose. I wonder, the colors are so amazing, did you use a filter or did you worked it in PP? Nice POV too. Obviously in this shot you knew "where to point the camera". Make me want to go in Spain! Well, that will have to wait, I put to much money in photography! ;D

Una foto preciosa y muy acertada en estos tiempos de acequia. Dentro de poco tiempo, toda España o casi estara desertica...
Has oido hablar del desierto de Tabernas ? Es tambien un lugar espectacular. La proxima vez que voy a España, tengo que ir a conocer a este desierto de las Bardenas...

Une photo extraordinaire, un paysage que je n'avais encore jamais vu!! C'est incroyable ce que la nature est capable de faire, j'aurais bien vu un petit personnage pour nous donner une echelle de grandeur ou n'importe quoi d'autre. ( en même temps dans le desert y a pas grand chose ;o))
Les couleurs sont chaudes, et l'image est parfaitement nette !!
Un grand bravo !!!

Hello Xevi,
Thanks for showing this part of Spain which is not well known. This landscape is awesome... it's too bad you do not have someone in the fore ground to give the scale. The sky and the clouds are beautiful and so are the colours though I feel it is a little bit oversaturated. Did you use a polarizing filter or do some PP on the photo?
