Photographer's Note

I took this shot in Spring 2011 in Madrid at the wonderful Retiro Park. It was a beginning of April however the day was sunny and beautiful. I miss these days so much...

About Retiro Park: large and popular 1.4 km2 park at the edge of the city center, very close to the Puerta de Alcalá and the Prado Museum. It takes its name from King Felipe IV's 17th century royal palace that once stood on this site, but all that remains of it is now the Casón del Buen Retiro, a building that was then part of the Prado Museum but that after renovation is now an educational center. A second part of that palace housed the Army Museum ("Museo del Ejército") for years, but it was decided that it should move to the city of Toledo and make the building part of the Prado Museum. Good morning Gosia,
Nice capture from Madrid. Portrait format was a good choice for your compo.
Nice cloudy and "photogenic" sky creates a perfect background to the scenery. Nice framing and short but usefull notes.

Hai scelto un bel soggetto per rappresentare la capitale della Spagna. Mi piace la composizione che trovo molto equilibrata ed anche la gestione della luce perchè la leggera sovraesposizione della scalinata mette in maggiore evidenza il bronzo dei leoni e delle altre figure che sono il soggetto principale . Bello anche il taglio verticale e giusto aver incluso parte del lago che rende il complesso architettonico più vivo. Buona anche la nitidezza e giusto il contrasto, non facile da gestire con le statue di bronzo.

Comme il est agréable de voir une telle composition sous une lumière printanière, où les fleurs s'amusent à nous offrir des taches de couleur.
Les sculptures bordant le lac sont très joliment présentée.

Hi Gosia,
Beautiful point of view you have here, to include the monumental statues, as well as the wonderful liveliness of the background with the people enjoying the water.
The lions look very proud, and like something has caught their attention, they look really excellent. the stairs make a really nice addition too. Really nicely seen!

Hello Gosia,
This is a fine view of the Retiro. The picture is very well composed with a fine balance between the statues and between the steps and the lake. The dramatic looking statues show us the "fine", official face of the park, whereas the rowing-boats tell us about the way ordinary people enjoy it.

At times, we find winter too long and wish for it to end sooner. But life has its own pace, and we just have to be patient. I'm sure you had a good time in Madrid, and the lovely picture you made of this park surely reminds you of pleasant memories. I like your point of view and perspective, showing a part of the monument to King Alfonso XII and the scattered boats on the pond. A perfect place for sitting and relaxing. Great depth and detail of the structure. Nice work.

You have made a good attempt here, choosing to go in tight on the statues. The composition works well, and the focus with deep DOF draws the attention not only to the lyon and woman staues but also to the boats and trees behind. The statues very well-exposed. Asymmetrical arrangement creates excellent balance and harmony. Excellent!!!

Hello Gosia,

A picture with a lots of diagonal lines like:
the fence, the stairs, but also from head to
head from the Lions to the background (trees).
These diagonal lines creates a lots of depth
and the vertical position emphasize that extra.
Light management and composition are as always
great.
