Aranjuez - A Portal to the Past Photo

Photographer’s Note

My first shot of Spain on TE is from my first trip to Europe. I'm dusting off old photos and scanning negatives. This is from the entrance to the Palacio Real de Aranjuez, one of several stops I took on a little day trip from Madrid to Toledo.

I decided to crop in the original shot (removing some heads of people entering--I know, I need to include people in my shots, but these just weren't working out!)... In any event, I like the outcome, so I thought to post to TE. The source for this photo is an Ektachrome slide, which I scanned and desaturated, increasing contrast slightly.

When I think of the name Aranjuez, I think of the classic "Concierto de Aranjuez," but the town and this palace are incredibly interesting in terms of Spanish history. The Aranjuez cultural landscape is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The palacio was was commissioned by Philip II and designed by Juan Bautista de Toledo and Juan de Herrera, who also designed El Escorial. More on Aranjuez, in English and Spanish.

Interesting note! Interesting shot! Has an old world feel to it. The tones have come out very well.

Hola Jose,

curiosa imagen en blanco y negro, es un sitio que no conozco, pero parece interesante. Lastima no pudieras captar la entrada completa sin gente.

Hola Jose,
nice for the half the view of Palacio Aranjuez.Clever your idea to uploading in B/W format.In order to see however the two clusters of statues, you cut the facade of Palace,the entrance and the people.I imagine that in other uploading you will show us also all the entry.

I am so pleased to see a picture from Spain!
Your first picture from Europe and Spain on Te, but I hope it won´t be the last!
The pov you have created, first taking the picture, and at the end cropping certain elements to avoid distraction, offer us a impressive result, with a very strong sky, which gives even more attractive to the scene!

Ay Aranjuez, y pensar que yo aún no he estado, a ver si me da tiempo en Noviembre!

Una foto hermosa de Espana. Me gusto mucho el punto de vista que genera una imagen de simetria. El blanco y negro fue muy buen efecto y las nubes le dan a la foto un aire misterioso. El detalle en esta foto es muy clara y te felicito mucho. Una nota muy interesante tambien.

Muy buena foto! Me gusto un poco mas el WS, pero las dos te salieron muy bien.

Hey Jose como estas?

Bueoa foto, me gusta mucho lo que hciste con ella, cortandola, cmabiandola a blanco y negro.

Amo espana, vivi ahi hace un ano, y me encnataria poder regresar, y uno de los lugares que conoci causmente fue el cnetro de Espana, Toledo y gran parte de catila la mancha.

Hola Jose,

quería decirte que este es un sitio que conozco bastante, ya que vivo y soy de Madrid, y lo has plasmado de una manera diferente, original y muy bonita. Me gusta mucho el desaturado, y me gusta todavía más el corte que le has dado para quitar las cabezas. La verdad es que con esas nubes en lo alto, casi parece más la entrada a un castillo de película de miedo que el Palacio de Aranjuez. Enhorabuena.
