La ciudad de Vivero (en gallego y oficialmente desde 1983 Viveiro), es un municipio español, perteneciente a la provincia de Lugo en la comunidad autónoma de Galicia. Es la capital de servicios comarca de A Mariña Occidental.

Se encuentra en la franja costera de la provincia de Lugo, a una altitud de 18 m sobre el nivel del mar, en el fondo de la ría que lleva su nombre (conformada por el Río Landro). Esta ría junto con las de Ribadeo, Foz y O Vicedo, constituyen la comarca de las Rías Altas del mar Cantábrico que en contraste con las Rías Bajas del mar Atlántico ofrecen un paisaje más abrupto con una costa muy recortada, muy buenos abrigos, un gran oleaje y mucha riqueza en pesca, además de espaciosas playas de arena blanca y fina, alguna de las cuales se encuentra todavía en estado semi salvaje de gran belleza.

Vivero es una población de enlace entre la Galicia rural y urbana en donde se mantienen arraigadas costumbres y tradiciones. Cruzada por el río Landro, el cual es salvado por tres puentes, uno de ellos para el ferrocarril, mantiene una importante riqueza monumental entre la cual destacan el Castillo del puente, que data del siglo XVI y las murallas. En el barrio de Covas (o Cobas) se encuentra la "playa de Covas", que tiene una longitud de 1.380 m, considerada desde siempre como la playa de Vivero.

Esta foto fue tomada desde el Mirador del Monte San Roque, desde una altitud de 357 metros, desde aquí se puede divisar la totalidad de la ría y parte de la costa, el núcleo urbano de Viveiro y la isla de A Coelleira, y muy al fondo el cabo Estaca de Bares, el lugar más septentrional de la Península Iberica. Dentro de este espacio se ubica la capilla de San Roque, un hórreo y varios cruceiros.

The city of Vivero (galician and officially since 1983 Viveiro) is a Spanish town, belonging to the province of Lugo in the autonomous region of Galicia. It is the capital of services region of A Mariña West.

Located in the coastal province of Lugo, at a height of 18 m above sea level, at the bottom of the river that bears his name (formed by the Rio Landro). This estuary along with those of Ribadeo, Foz and O Vicedo, constitute the region of the Rías Altas of the Cantabrian Sea that in contrast to the Rias Baixas sea Atlanta offer a more rugged landscape with a coastline cut very, very good coats, a large waves and a lot of wealth in fishing, in addition to spacious white sand beaches and fine, some of which is still in semi-wild state of great beauty.

Within this space lies the chapel of San Roque, a barn and several crosses.
