La Garganta de los Infiernos, fue declarada Reserva Natural en noviembre de 1994.

Situada en el Valle del Jerte, esta reserva natural está comprendida entre la vertiente noroeste de la Sierra de Tormantos, la vertiente suroeste de la Sierra de Gredos y el río Jerte. En la zona se pueden contemplar numerosos saltos de agua y cascadas, así como las marmitas gigantes de Los Pilones.

Las rocas principales que encontramos en la Garganta de los infiernos son granitos y gneis.

Las máximas altitudes se alcanzan en la Cuerda de los Infiernillos (2.281 m.) y el Cerro del Estecillo (2.290 m.) que rodean a la Garganta de la Serrá, antiguo valle glaciar que quedó modelado por el paso de los hielos cuaternarios.

Hay que destacar en la Reserva Natural una amplia red hidrográfica con abundantes saltos y cascadas, una de las principales peculiaridades de este espacio natural.

Mención especial merecen las "marmitas gigantes", que son grandes pozas excavadas en la roca por la erosión fluvial, destacando las que existen en el paraje conocido como Los Pilones.

En la Garganta de los Infiernos, debido a la variación altitudinal, que oscila entre los 300 y 2000 metros, encontramos las siguientes asociaciones vegetales: bosque caducifolio y de ribera, piornales serranos y pastizales alpinos.

En el bosque caducifolio abundan los castaños, su madera y fruto (castañas), son aprovechadas por los habitantes de la zona. En laderas soleadas prospera bien el cultivo del cerezo, cuyos frutos son fuente de riqueza en toda la comarca del Jerte.

La variedad de ecosistemas existentes en la Reserva Natural propicia la abundancia y diversidad faunística. Desde el valle hasta las cumbres serranas encontramos multitud de hábitats que han sido aprovechados por un sinfín de especies animales adaptadas a ellos. Podemos encontrar algunas rapaces como el águila real, el águila culebreara o el milano, y en algunas zonas el buitre leonado y el búho real.

Entre los mamíferos destaca la cabra montesa y la nutria con poblaciones bastante escasas pero estables. Completan el catálogo de rarezas el gato montes y la gineta.

The Gorge of hell, was declared Nature Reserve in November 1994.

Located in the Jerte Valley, this nature reserve is between the northwest slope of the Sierra de Tormantos, the southwestern slope of the Sierra de Gredos and Rio Jerte. The area can see many waterfalls and cascades, as well as marmitas giant Los Pilones.

The main rocks found in the Gorge of hell are granite and gneiss.

The highest elevations are achieved in the Infiernillo Rope (2,281 m.) and the Cerro del Estecillo (2,290 meters) surrounding the Gorge de la Serra, a former valley glacier which was shaped by the passage of the Quaternary ice.

It should be emphasized in the Nature Reserve hydrographic network with a wide leaps and abundant waterfalls, one of the main peculiarities of this nature.

Special mention should be "marmitas giants, which are large pools dug into the rock by river erosion, highlighting that exist in the place known as The Pylons.

In the Gorge of hell because of the altitude change, which ranges between 300 and 2000 meters, we find the following plant associations: deciduous forest and riverside piornales serranos and alpine pastures.

In deciduous forests abound chestnut, its wood and fruit (chestnuts), are exploited by local residents. In sunny slopes thrives well growing cherry tree, whose fruits are a source of wealth throughout the region of Jerte.

The variety of ecosystems that exist in the Nature Reserve conducive abundance and diversity of fauna. From the valley to the mountain summits are a multitude of habitats that have been exploited by a multitude of animal species adapted to them. We can find some raptors such as golden eagle, eagle snakes or milano, and in some areas the vultures and owls.

Among mammals highlights the ibex and otter populations with very low but stable. Rounding out the list of oddities cat mountains and La Gineta.
