Besalú Romanic bridge Photo

Photographer’s Note

Besalú is an historical-artistic medieval whole, one of the most well-preserved in Catalonia. It includes the old Iglesia del Monasterio de Sant Pere from the 12th century, It serves to show up the originality of the Iglesia del Sant Vicenç from the XII, where lateral Gothic chapel devoted to the Vera Creu; the façade of the old church Iglesia Hospital de Sant Julià from the 12th century; the house of Cornellà, Gothic building of the Creuera Reial. It stand outs the Jewish Call with the most important building, unique in its genre and the third European building: the Miqvé.
The Miqvé or building of Jewish purifying bathts. Besalú is the only area of Jewish ritual baths in the Iberian Peninsula. It is a stone house with a quadrant vault, typical Romanic, from the 12th century. You can arrive at the underground Mikwé by going down a stone stairs to the place of the religious rites. One of the most well-known rite was the purifying women's bath after the menstrual period, used by jews in remote times.
Finally, you can find the Romanic bridge over the river Fluvià. It is the vestige of big towns that together with Barcelona, Ripoll and the Bisbat de Girona, originated the Catalan nationality. A medieval athmosphere with streets full of memories.

J'aime beaucoup l'arrière plan que constitue ce ciel orageux mais aussi les réflexions dans l'eau. Le cadrage est parfait et l'esthétique de cette photo est indiscutable. Toutefois, je trouve que les couleurs sont trop saturées, en particulier l'herbe qui est d'un vert assez improbable.

Uno de los puentes mas conocidos y bellos de mi tierra, Catalunya, y lo fotografiaste con toda la fuerza que se merece. El cielo es impresionante, la luz sobre las piedras del puente es la ideal para crear el bonito reflejo en el río. Las orillas verdes, le dan el toque de color justo. Una perfecta composición.

Tu rigoles là, tu la construite sous PS cette photo ?! :)
Elle est magnifique cette photo, vraiment incroyable.
Cette forte luminosité sur ce pont en contraste avec ce ciel chargé, c'est excellent.
Le cadrage est très bien vu, ces arches qui nous laissent voir dans la profondeur, cette nettetée, cette magnifique reflexion,...enfin bref, une très très bonne compo.

Hi Toni
A gorgeous composition. That sky is so threatening, it adds loads of atmoshere to the shot. The position of the bridge and the way it curves to the right is very easy on the eye, and the colours are quite vivid. I like the reflection in the water as it helps carry the viewer through to see the reflections and landscape on the other side of the bridge through the archway. Well captured.

Hi Toni. I had already seen this on Sunday, and today I'm coming back to congratulate you for this fine photographic accomplishment. The composition as such is already well-made, with the grand old bridge traversing the frame, and including the fine reflections and greenery. But of course the special light setting and sky are what makes this one special.

Je n'avais pas vu ce pont, et je dois dire que c'est magnifique, la saturation est super comme souvent. C'est une tres belle photo.
Je crois que tu scannes les diapos ( Velvia ? ) j'ai essaye il y peu et les couleurs du labo etaitpas du tout fidele a la diapo :-( si tu as un conseil pour un labo je suis preneur.

On dirait un décor du seigneur des anneaux.

Ce ciel meneçant se refletant dans la rivière est magnifique. D'un côté le ciel en colère, de l'autre le soleil éclairant le pont, donne à l'ensemble un contraste époustoufflant.

Great framing. The positioning of the bridge in the top third work quite well as well it allows you to take advantage of the reflection and margins of the river in the bottom. Also like the diagonal view over the bridge adding dynamic.

The colors are a bit unusual but I guess it’s from the fact it comes from film. A bit more sharpness would be good.

Wonderful reflection in the water, but the photo is made by the fantastic black clouds that sit hanging in the sky behind the bridge, threatening an immenent downpour. A LOT of people on the bridge!

The dramatic dark sky and its reflections save it from beeing a tourist snapshot.
The busloads of people really do not matter at all. Very green for Spain.

Tout est bon dans cette photo. D'abord la lumière très forte avant un orage. Les couleurs on les croirait forcées mais c'est cette lumière qui donne cet effet. Le sujet : le pont, très photogénique et son reflet qui tient de la magie. La composition sans reproche. Il faut être très difficile pour trouver un défaut.

Toni the comosition you show us here is very impressive. The sky is very impressive although I think a little PP work needed to be done on the highlights on the bridge. However still a great picture. Good job!!!

nice photo, good composition. I have just one remark. Bridge is little bit overeposed. I'd like to see a little bit more detail on the bridge body especially around the tower at the middle part of bridge.

Quelle photo superbe! Les nuages sombres donnent un effet un peu surréel à cette photo. L'on dirait que le ciel va s'ouvrir et que quelque chose de terrible va se produire!
C'est très bien que le pont traverse la photo.

Sí que es cierto... un mismo sujeto para la foto y tantas posibilidades! Esta también se me había pasado, bueno, cuando la colgaste yo no estaba todavía en TE. Me gusta mucho el violento contraste entre el puente así iluminado y el cielo tan oscuro y tan dramático. Tiene una enorme fuerza. Enhorabuena!

Wow, 1988! Rarely do we see such lovely photos posted here on TE that are as old as this. I hope that doesn't make you feel old ;-) The composition with the reflection of the bridge and the greenery on both sides is dreamlike. The dark blue clouds are surreal. They make for an awesome background. I like seeing the people on the bridge too. Great film capture.
