Barcellona - El Born.
era una serata piovosa e il quartiere del Born, di solito sempre affollato e vivace, sembrava deserto. un cane randagio se ne andava in giro, forse in cerca di rifugio o di cibo, metafora di uno stato d'animo vago e indefinito.
"wag the dog" e' una frase idiomatica inglese; tradotta all'impronta, significa distogliere intenzionalmente l'attenzione da un qualcosa di importante mettendo in risalto un evento o una situazione di minore importanza.
non c'e' bisogno di guardare alla finanza o alla politica (come nel caso dell'omonimo film di B. Levinson) per trovare esempi - consciamente o meno, ad ognuno di noi puo' capitare di (voler) deviare l'attenzione dal problema principale, illudendo noi stessi o gli altri con pretesti e specchietti per le allodole...

it was a rainy evening in Barcelona and the district of El Born, usually crowded and alive with tourists and locals, seemed eerily deserted.
I remember looking at this poor stray dog walking disconsolately in search of food or shelter and thinking of how the whole scene could have easily been a metaphor for my state of mind in that moment, a vague unease I wasn't able to define back then but that was bound to come to the surface later.
"wag the dog" means to (intentionally) divert attention from something of greater importance to something else of lesser importance - we draw attention away from the more important issue by emphasizing the lesser-important event.
you don't need to necessarily look at politics to find related examples - consciously or not, we also tend to use such tactics in daily life, especially when we're afraid of being exposed by certain events or situations...
