Photographer’s Note

This curious place is an ancient coal quarry located near Berga, in Catalunya. The large grey dipping plane that you can see in the middle of the picture is a lacustrine limestone layer that has been tilted during the deformation of the Pyrenean chain. This limestone has been deposed here during the very late cretaceous. The interest of this place for palaeontology amateurs is the small round traces that you can see (mainly on the large post !) and that are plotted on the version provided in ws. In fact these traces are dinosaur footprints that form tracks indicating the ways these gigantic reptils were walking in this mud that are moe than 59 millions years old. This place is totally amazing because of the density of dinosaur footprints that can be found all around this limestone layer on undreds of meters.
I thought it interesting to show, and I hope you'll be interested !
