Good Morning Everyone,
We were exploring the Mare Magnum in Barcelona when we decided to interrupt our walking, take the weight off our feet, and have a refreshing drink.
There is a lovely bar overlooking the sea, so with camera in hand, I headed towards the nearest table.
I was immediately attracted by the glass on the table. The sun was livening it and making a lovely shadow across the tablecloth. (You know me and shadows!)
It seemed like the start of an interesting story. Who had rushed off and left this unfinished drink; why had they rushed off; where had they gone; had they gone willingly? There were traces of lipstick on the glass but no other glass on the table. Had the lady been waiting to meet someone!
The Agatha Christie in me was working overtime!
It was easy to see how small incidents could begin an exciting story!
Have a lovely day, Bev :-)

Hello Bev, (aka Miss Marple?)
This could easily go to one of Agatha Christie book jackets. The composition is top class with the background that provides lovely colours and sets up the context and the wisps of light across the shadow.
Thanks for sharing this most enjoyable picture.

A fine looking glass of rosé, such a shame to rush off and leave it! I like the composition and the lighting. The long shadow is a definite bonus. Well observed and nicely captured. They didn't come back for it by any chance after having to spend a penny?

Artistic detail from that fantastic city. Not the best wine there but for sure a glass of any color works perfectly.
Enjoy a fine week.

I think that here has drunk a lady at this glass wine, looks to lipstick!
You write about shadows, but this cares for a excellent perspective, what gives a more value to the picture
Your picture is very nice made with a high quality.
Very well of colours and nice presentation too.
Nice done, TFS.
Have a nice new week,

Tu as bien su saisir l'occasion. L'ombre du verre sur la nappe blanche est de toute beauté. J'aime aussi le reflet rose dur la nappe qui est une belle touche.

I like this simple but well composed photo. The glass casts a very fine shadow and there are also nice reflections on the table. The red against grey and the red dominance of the background is quite attractive. I also enjoy your attempts to imagine a story behind the unfinished drink left (in a hurry?) by someone. Maybe the wine just didn't taste well?

A fine beginning to a mystery, if I had a moustache, I would be twirling it now in a suspenseful manner :) what grabs me in this is the beautiful colors inside the shadow, it really is a fine soft color and with a vey magical light. I love that you creat the beginning of a story in what you have seen here, nicely done. Thanks as always for sharing this great slice of imaginatn.
P.S. thank you kindly For your wonderful words on my last post. I agree fully, this site has totally changed how I now See photos and some of the photogs on this site have really inspired me. Funny enough, this pic is a little older, but I just seen it in a new way now :)

Très jolie capture de ce verre avec son ombre et les reflets à l'intérieur. J'aime beaucoup la couleur de la boisson et les reflets lumineux sur l'ombre. Bien vu et bien imaginé la petite histoire. Bravo! :)

Dear Miss Christie,
There is little doubt they rushed off having sensed danger. Why would anyone abandon a glass of wine half full... or half empty. I like the perspective you've chosen, revealing transparent, translucent and opaque objects all in one frame. And of the course, the frame is gun metal gray in color, around the photograph tastefully placed in a double mat. The sunlight diffracting off the rim of the glass has cast a lovely halo over the shadow of the wine glass.
annjackman (18143) 2014-08-28 4:35
I like this very much. It does indeed raise questions and a story can be created in our minds. I particularly like the DOF with the table and chairs in the BG sufficiently out of focus to add to the story without competing with the main subject. The shadow is of course an essential element. There is some super light on the wine.
Kind Regards, Ann

Excellent close-up photo with perfect light and shadow combination, well framed in portrait format. The well-chosen tight crop eliminates all unwanted distractions.

Very well seen! You made a beautiful compo with that glass, its shadow and the effects of light produced by it, that would be interesting even without your imaginative divagations about what could have happened before and was happening while you were shooting the photo.
TFS, regards, José.

Hello Beverley. A photo like a still life study. Colored very interesting. The shadow of the glass gives the photo a new dimension. The inclusion of the background is well done. Overall, a remarkable photo.

I was all set to comment on your recent picture, but found myself returning back just a bit to this one. I wonder, how many people passed this by and never gave it a second thought...and why would they, it's something we see pretty much every day.
That being said, it takes a keen sense to realize the opportunity and take advantage of the "gift" presented...and more often than not, you end up with something that can not only relate to the photographers, but anyone with an imagination. :) You've certainly captured both parties, and it's fun to think of the stories which could take place, before or after this scene. Very well observed and smartly taken! Enjoy the new day. All the best.
