Good Morning Everyone,
On another wet and windy morning in the U.K. it is with great affection that I revisit my memories of the warmth of Barcelona.
The opening of the Winter Games in Sochi has triggered my love of watching sport, so, with these two thoughts in my mind, I had to post the Olympic flame holder from Barcelona.
I think these flame holders are wonderfully artistic statements of their time. If you look carefully, you will see engravings on the metal surface depicting the Olympic Rings and proudly stating Barcelona '92.
I hope you have a relaxing Sunday, Bev :-)

Good angle and POV chosen to shoot this beautiful flame holder in Barcelona. I do not know what it was meant to look like, but indeed looks like a whale the way you show us. A fine photo, thanks for sharing.

I suspect a lot of UK residents are harbouring thoughts of warmer days. This is a wonderfully conceived and composed shot from the Olympics of over 20 years ago. Doesn't seem that long ago in my memory! Immaculate detail and a strikingly original presentation.
Enjoy your Sunday - B.

Your well chosen point of view takes full advantage of the lovley warm light falling on the flame holder, whose shape for some reason reminds me of a dolphin. The image is ideally exposed and has excellent colours and clarity. Have a great Sunday afternoon despite the terrible weather. It's just the same down here!

what a composition! I like your framing with a masterful control over light and depth. Superb presentation in vertical. Great work. Tfs.

as has already been noted there is striking resemblance to the outline of a whale...
It`s not always easy to get the exposure right when pointing your camera skywards so you have done ever so well to get this spot on,the colours are true and details nicely clear.
Best regards Les.

An interesting element of the Olympic.
Curious POV and composition.
Good colors and light.
Have a nice afternoon

Good evening Beverly,
Especially attractive is the brass blueish texture when looking upwards to the Olympic-torch. Fine taken with backlight well managed, an askewed angle upon made it look as an artistic approach and not "just another view" on.
Clear details and contrast to blue sky, superbly done.

fortunately, yr angle has made a sinarit fish ( dentex ) climbed 'on a wall' and thanks to god, not on 'a tree'. because a shot onto a fish on a tree could easily be judged one of those signs. well-done!

Aha, Olympic flame holder! I would not have worked that out, and I actually thought it was a sculpture of a whale falling from the sky. (Why someone would make that is anyones guess). A great angle on this, and the beautiful blue sky behind serves as a perfect backdrop to the gold tone of both the holder and the buildings its set against. Nicely seen and captured!
All the best

Yes, this is a very apposite posting as the Winter Olympics now get under way in Sochi.
But I'm afraid that when I first looked at this picture, not having read your note, I felt exactly the same as did Noel - this looked to me like some enormous fish or whale which had fallen from the sky and stopped itself by hanging on to the side of a building.
But it is the soft lighting which really makes this picture as it brings out all the subtle reflections and textures in the satin finish on this wonderfully curvaceous metal structure. And you have captured it well, portrayed against the classical stone building and a lovely azure sky.

A very interesting work of art, looks like a big whale placed downwards here. But you have chosen a good angle and the colours are very attractive.

Another interesting contribution to the Olympic theme!
I've got a rest in hospital after surgery, but I have try to watch the Games. Very interesting presentation of Barcelona, fine details of the Olympic construction.
Best wishes from Russia!
