This is a street in El Born, Barcelona, just to the left side of the Basilica of Santa Maria del Mar. The cathedral itself is a great example of Gothic architecture and you can read more about it here:
I have partially desaturated this image because I like it that way and it allowed the reds to stand out more.
Compositionally it is not my usual style but I liked it as a scene overall and I guess those of you who like photography according to the usual "rules" of photography may like this postcard type shot.

No, this isn't your usual style of photograph but it's a very fine one - right up my street, in fact.
Compositionally this is excellent, the lines of the edges of the pavement leading the eye perfectly to the distant archway and the couple walking towrds the camera. The planted pots and stray bicycles add to the appeal too. Although you freely admit that you have desaturated this one to some extent, I find it very appealing and, yes, it certainly does accentuate the reds in the picture. It also adds a nice "gritty" feel as well.
On "normal" TE, this doesn't look particularly sharp but, when viewed at larger size on "beta" TE, the details and sharpness are exquisite. Nice, too, to see some pictures of "real" Barcelona and not just ones of Gaudi's masterpieces!

hi mike. excluding your usual thick white border helps this one look even wider. nice atmosphere with subdued colors. it is now not like how you (or your camera) sees, it is like how you precieve the atmosphere, therefore you still have your subjectivity. btw, this might be a postcard a la mjw, but i cannot call this a postcard a la TE: it has no trees, clouds or eternal sunshine in it. it doesn't even have any toy colors.

love the treatment to this shot. It makes the image all the more moody and full of character. Love the little nuances of colour which are subtle yet perfectly placed. A lot to look at here but is perfectly balanced and original as well as being beautiful. Well done - inspiring imagery!

nice photo of this pathway. I like the partial desaturation, a master piece work.

The last critique I did, I took the guy to task over much too much saturation in the old technicolour sunset. No such problem here: most unusually (for this site), you've desaturated quite dramatically. And if it was uniform, I'd go for it; as it is - and of course this is a personal thing - the selection of the red and orange elements to leave unsaturated makes the image look "worked". I'd prefer it all in sepia, or uniformly desaturated. But then I'm a vegetarian...
Actually the framing and composition are fine (even if conventional!)

I see even you couldn´t resist the charm of this part of Barcelona:)
Classic shot without any "abstract" elements:),but really very atmospheric!
I like the color scheme of it(quite pale colors with only few vivid and strong contrasting elements-brilliant!)

Hi michael, I like idea to partly desaturate the picture. it give a special mood to the photo. I like this closed view and the presence of the couple under the arch. Many nice details, like the bike, many flowers and wonderful balconies. Excellent shot of the small street with no cars allowed
Warm regrads Malgo

I have occasionally desaturated parts of a shot to give a desired effect; not everyone approved but most people could see the reason. I must say, I do like this. It has caused me to look more carefully at the different features, deciding where the desat has occurred, and incidentally absorbing more than I might otherwise have done.
It may be a little traditional, for you, but it is still a fine capture, showing some of the characteristics of the city and a very relaxed mood. The composition is excellent.
My warm regards,

I do like this a lot, and I really like the effect of the desaturation too. The image has great architecture, and a great sense of depth as the path leads into the scene. The people add cool scale.

Hi Mike - I'm the first to admit that I don't like selective desaturation but here I think you have won me round. The shot takes on the look of one of those old hand-tinted picture postcards and doesn't look gimmicky or 'old hat'. The sepia toning adds to that feel and you have some nice grainy textures which I enjoy. This is not your usual style of work but I think it adds another string to your creative bow. Warm regards Rosemary

Grand image and very effective treatment for a first attempt! Love the interesting effect not something I have tried myself. I think to my mind, it's a great way of receding a busy background without losing the information in it with selective colouring and this is excellent, very professionally done. I particularly like the composition, it all works well together. Watching him watching you, but you have the camera..
Well shot, Congrats

c'est une superbe photo avec une belle luminosité. Le traitement de la couleur met l'image en valeur, les touches de couleur attirent l’œil sur de petits détails et ça donne envie de s'attarder.
this is a great shot with beautiful light. The use of color makes image enhancement, color buttons catch the eye on small details and makes you want to linger.
ktanska (23142) 2013-11-25 5:20
Well, well, the fact that this is less abstract than your usual uploads doesn't make this postcard type. Some kind of art postcard maybe, but I haven't seen such either.
Colour treatment is surprisingly successful creating subtle tones of brown and green, which fits well with the urban canyon like this. You also make shady realism look quite luminous. I bet you needed quite some experimentation on that.
And framing is quite careful too, like you always have.

very charming courtyard well captured. There are plenty elements of decorations which add a nice touch like the flowerpots or the plants on the balconies. Also the couple walking in adds some life and action here. Everything well thought through. Great processing too.
rbassin (14435) 2013-11-30 0:48
avec le traitement de désaturation et l'accentuation du rouge, vous avez obtenu une photo imprégnée d'une touche personnelle.
C'est très intéressant , bien pensé.
