Another shot of Casa Milà (La Pedrera) in the Eixample district of Barcelona, Spains second largest city with a metropolitan population of over 5 million (although the city proper only has about 1.5 million people). It was a difficult shot to get without the near constant tourist crowds, confined to a small area on the rooftop of this quirky building designed by Gaudi. The bg chimney design can also be seen within the main facade of Sagrada Familia, the huge cathedral that Gaudi is better known for.

A clever composition here complemented by good colours and an agreeable ambient light. I particularly like the textures and detail to be observed in the wall on the left.

l'inquadratura è molto bella e da origine ad una bella composizione.
Eccellenti anche i colori e impeccabile la nitidezza e la luminosità.
Uno scatto perfetto ed insolito di un soggetto già noto.
Ciao e buon fine settimana

A fine shot, I've been here, in 2007, but missed this shot. You have done very well and yes I understand about the tourists, we are tourists too, so you just have to put up with it.
An excellent composition. I love his work.

Hello dear Chris,
What would be Barcelona without Gaudi ?
You have chosen here an amazing Pov.
Very good composed.
TFS and have a nice weekend

Brilliant and original capture of this fantastic detail of La Pedrera. You have found a great moment to take it without people around with a brand new frame of this well-know theme. Like it! eye-catching one!
Have a nice weekend!

love this. So enticing and original. Barcelona is a photographers favourite and there are so many shot here on TE, so it is difficult to get something different, but this succeeds on so many levels. Beautiful!
Enjoy your weekend - Brian.

You had a good idea to use the arch to frame the cross. The point of view is showing the détails and colors of the architecture of the wall and of the arch. The good luminosity is enhancing the beauty of the colors. Have a nice day.
macondo (18461) 2013-10-05 4:56
This one will be popular! Not only for the well chosen viewpoint, but the beautiful combination of white, blue and the earthy ochre colours. You've achieved a really pleasing array of lines and angles, too. It is indeed surprising that there's not one person in this scene, as I know what the crowds can be like. Very nicely done.

J'ai eu le plaisir de visiter ce toit et ces cheminées par une très belle journée. Mais il y avait beaucoup plus de monde et c'était difficile de faire une aussi belle composition originale.
luciola (2642) 2013-10-05 5:51
Beautifully composed photo. Interestingly used shapes, textures of stones and mosaics, and the shadows.

No visitors that block the view and this in August! I guess you must have been very patience.
Excellent choice of POV. Very attractive composition. Perfect sharpness.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Chris. Creative, imaginative POV. Excellent exposure retains the natural colour and manages the areas in shadow without loss of detail. Regards. Klaudio.

This is a very well composed and manage shot Chris. You have been creative in your efforts to present the architecture without the interference of visitors and the result is a fine detail shot. Light, colours and pin-sharpness all add up to a very attractive image.

A very cool POV looking through the arch of the doorway. The stair lead our vision in through the door and in. All is well composed with good details and warm colors.

Now, I really like this.
You have used the contrasting materials, with their shapes and textures and contrasting light and shade, to make THE most attractive lead through the archway to the focal image.
The light is wonderful and dof spot on.
One of your best.
Have a lovely day,
delpeoples (48910) 2013-10-06 4:02
Hi dear Chris
An unmistakably Gaudi shot. I love the rich tones and the light. You did really well to avoid the tourists, I couldn't get a clean shot anywhere I went in Barcelona. But the most important thing was getting to admire Gaudi's masterpieces up close and personal
Thanks for sharing, have a lovely Sunday
eldancer1 (20950) 2013-10-07 9:21
Very creative use of this stairway to frame the artistic chimney. Good lighting and sharp details. Wonderful colors. Well done, tfs.
nikkitta (9205) 2013-10-07 17:57
What a tour are you doing in Europa, from London to Spain, lets see what will be next
This composition seems to be only yours with an imaginative POV, like natural and original frames as it happens here
Also good contrast with a very blue sky
Well done, tfs
Thanks also, a lot, for watching and commenting my photos, not in a stupid way but in a constructive one
Cricri (92599) 2013-10-07 23:01
Magnifique architecture de Gaudi, le charme et l'originalité tout bon le cadrage, sur le fond bleu, vraiment une très belle présentation

Good evening Chris,
Well spotted and placed the known chimnies of the Cas-Mila, under the beautiful arch.
By itself the arch has typical Gaudi style, we see around barcelona.
excelent light managed, DOF through and clarity.
mcmtanyel (5580) 2013-10-11 21:35
I just love this photo, I think I'll add it to my favorites as soon as I stop ranting and raving about it. The colors are just right, a dark blue sky vs a warm beige. The POV and framing are exquisite and the subject is just plain photogenic.
adores (31019) 2013-10-15 17:03
How I understand you! it's really hard to get a few shots in famous monuments, but here you maneged to get a good composition. I like the way you framed the chimney through the arch and colours are excellent.
Angshu (52994) 2013-10-16 23:15
Superbly framed!! You lead our eyes in through the stairs to the chimney elegantly framed through the arch. Have seen many pictures from Casa Mila, but none with this POV before...
ourania (19024) 2013-10-18 13:17
I like very much the way you saw the unique architecture and weren't content in just recording it but created an imaginative and original composition to express your view of it. I like that you took into consideration the perspectives, the intriguing architectural features, the materials, the strong warm light and the chromatic contrasts. All these have been superbly arranged in the vertical frame. The colours are delicious and perspectives really inviting. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely weekend,
Hanssie (10067) 2013-10-22 0:26
