This is a shot taken underneath what looked like a bank of solar panels, at El Maresme Forum, Barcelona. This location is the far side of the Museu Blau and is a pretty desolate place. Or at least it was the day I was there. It looked like a place that had previously had massive investment to try to turn the place into a kind of forum for events and a fairly posh marina type setting. However, these three people were the only ones around aside from me.
It was a baking hot day with direct sunlight and I guess they were seeking shelter. The white lines in the shot are not painted on the road they are the direct overhead sunlight filtered through the gaps in the solar panel structure above.
As I approached this structure the guy on the right was staggering all over the place, clearly drunk. He lay down on the floor a few times before he eventually emerged sitting up and rolling a spliff. The two people at the end, where the road just drops down via steps to the sea, were a couple of "teenage dirt bags"; skater "dudes", who I took another shot of as they skated past me a few moments later.
It felt a far cry from the "other" Barcelona down this end of it's long seafront and the people seemed somehow excluded from the city. This was a place that only emphasised their isolation and exclusion even more given it's desolate feel.

a superb shot this. So different and intriguingly presented. Love the lines and surreal feel about it and of course it works superbly in this medium. Creative and imaginative imagery. Love it!
Have a good week - Brian.

I do like the dark mood created by the stooping figure in an imaginative and very well composed mono upload.
There is a nice range of tones with the two figures receding into the distance at the end of the lines a key element for me.
Very nicely done.
Best regards Les.

hi Mike, another interesting presentation from you. Great use of frame. The leading lines are nice ended to the persons. Nice structure at top which is looking like an abstract as you showed to us using a fine POV. Excellent composition in monochrome. Tfs.

Tievis a wonderfully surreal shot, and that feeling is enhanced by your black and white treatment and your fine note. Great perspective on this unique structure. Great shot.

This is a tremendously good shot again from you. Without at first reading your note the graphic lines, the contrasty b/w treatment and silhouetted people was mysterious and left questions which is good. Evocative imagery - fisrt class work. Has to be a favourite for me.
Kind Regards, Ann

An incredible photo, superbly converted into b/w. The tonality and the cropping have given it immense impact. I liked your note very much. I was in Barcelona recently, and I know what this place is like, typical of a lot of modern 'development' all over the world. The presence of real people in this setting looks almost incongruous. Anyway, it's my favourite for today.

The minute I read the title I had to listen to Dylan's epic song... so thanks for reminding me about that one Mike. A wonderfully composed shot the graphic lines of which are beautifully punctuated by the 3 figures. Perfect in B&W where the contrasting light and very disciplined composition take priority. Top class again! Warm regards rosemary

interesting and intriguing composition. I enjoy the B&W though it is very very contrasty. Well I guess that was the way you wanted it, right?

brillaint composition and B&W treatment! The way you composed it and the strong light make the graphics of the image really strong and expressive.
PS.unfortunately when I was there it was closed due to some construction works. Now I see how much I missed.

I think the greatest challenge here is lighting but you have greater control over it with fine clarity to dramatise the lines, shapes of the interior design abound of graphic feel and this is the strength - the obvious drama of the shot difficult to ignore. The mono treatment is apt strong in details and good human interaction along with the dotted white lines adding the extra depth and contrast. Credit to your observation and seeing things and taken like this is a great ability I am very impressed, Well done, Congrats.

a powerful b&w with strong contrasts.
this formula would also go very well with your style.
you may think about sticking to it.

i think black and White is the ideal choice for this Image! The structure Looks incredibly big and the light rays on the ground almost look like they were street lines, painted on the ground.
Quite a shot! TFS, F.

un b&w di gran classe, la composizione geometrica interretta dalle presenze umane, è ben riuscita, gli spazi sono stati riempiti perfettamente.
Una speldida realizzazione.

Don't think I saw this one on Flickr, Mike, so I'm glad I popped back into TE today... now that summer's winding down I'll be around more often.
Great high contrast shot here, with the light at the bottom o the frame mirroring the lines at top nicely. Such great human presence too - despite the small size of each figure, there are some interesting stories being told here. And of course a great allusion to an even better song in the title...
PS - out of smilies for the day, I'm afraid, but I couldn't resist.

Excellent shot of this modern design! Like your creative approach and unique result achieved by selecting this point of view. The visual effect created by the spectacular play of lines and lights is absolutely gorgeous. Bravo! TFS.

Really great composition and conversion - b&w is really perfect here. I like the modern architecture forming a diagonal and the people calmly sitting there. The sunlight on the ground creates a very nice effect. A very good shot!

Thanks a lot for your explanation, because while seeing the thumbnail, I asked myself what it could represent. Modern installation of solar panels and its graphism give the impression of a very "cold" place, not very welcoming. Excellent light management.
CLODO (26462) 2013-09-10 4:37
Superb researched POV with the large building overlooking the small silhouettes. the white dotted line is a good way to focus on the sezated persons.
great b&w picture, with some good creation (what is missing in this site)

Stunning shot here, Mike. Superb bl/w contrasts & great to see you getting the song titles in again. Thumbs up from me!
