Diagonal ZeroZero Tower, a photo from Barcelona, Catalonia

Photographer's Note

Telefonica Tower - Diagonal ZeroZero is located at the middle point of the Forum area and the old neighborhood La Mina in Barcelona. The recent urban intervention in this area has been controversial and polemical, as La Mina, initially built to house the flow of immigrants arriving from diverse Spanish regions in the mid-sixties, has been regularly perceived as an area of social degradation. The early 2000's brought Herzog & de Meuron's 2004 Universal Forum of Cultures to the La Mina vicinity, but didn't include the area in the complete masterplan. The controversy only increased upon the Forum's completion and subsequent scant institutional support for the area. These events make it easy to understand the importance of the site and urban context in terms of the socio-economical and cultural development for Barcelona, at the crux of which, in Autumn 2011, the Diagonal ZeroZero tower officially opened.

Designed by Estudi Massip-Bosch Arquitectes (EMBA), the building has been recently awarded the Leaf Award 2011 for Best Commercial Building of the Year, due to its clear intention to revitalize this urban site with an architectural and technological approach. Source: http://www.domusweb.it

HI Gosia,i missed this spectacular tower in my quick trip in Barcelona,this is a great architechture,original and beautiful,perfect capture in the best light,very good work despite the electric wire,but this is one of the most common problems of the photographers..ehhee...have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

czy ten budynek nie wyglada super?to bylo pierwsze miejsce do ktorego pojechalem po przylocie do Barcelony i kiedy go po raz pierwszy zobaczylem nie moglem przestac go fotografowac:)Taka nowoczesna wersja Flat Iron Building z Nowego Jorku.Wiem tez,ze nie latwo go bylo uchwycic w kadrze.Luciano wspomnial o liniach tramwajowych,ale to chyba jedyny punkt z ktorego mozna zrobic calosciowe ujecie.No i do tego kontrast.Blekit nieba i biala fasada-super zestawienie.

Hello Gosia,
A most interesting and unusual example of modern architecture. The chosen point of view shows it to very good effect, helped by the lovely sky. The lighting is perfect to bring out the detail, whilst the use of the vertical format helps emphasise the height. Very good clarity.

this is an amazing looking building and your POV makes it look so magnificent. It takes on the appearance of an ice mountain in this wonderfully composed shot. Set against the blue sky so beautifully with exquisite sharp lines it all makes for a classic and stunning image. Well done!

Most incredible architecture element, Gosia, this building is outstanding sight.
Taken from the best POV, valuating the light prevailed on hour taken (and I do not care for the electricity lines - it's part of life in the city).
Excelent clear details, WB balanced to a fine contrast.

That is a magnificent piece of architecture. And I have to say, that trekearth and it's images from Barcelona have made me decide on the next city I want to see. This looks simply stunning against that Brit blue sky. A wonderful urban regeneration, its so nice to see these ideas work so well.

Krzysztof's comparison to the Flatiron building in New York is a good one - a modern, latticed version indeed! Perfect angle here, to show the sharp shape of the structure, which takes on almost the look of an obelisk. Great light and gradient blue in the sky - the result no doubt of a nice use of a filter here. Thanks!

Great note, interesting building. The diagonal lines in the building reminds me of the bird nest from the Beijing olympics. Here in my hometown Rotterdam we have a building called Red Apple which also has these non straight lines.
