Photographer's Note

Hello Everyone,

This is the decoration above the main entrance to the cathedral.

The cathedral is very large and there were lots of tourists bustling around the steps, walking in front of my camera, so I opted to concentrate on the decoration.

I'm so glad that I did because, when I come back to scrutinise it, it is even more ornate than I ever recalled.

The old part of Barcelona is not only beautiful, but in the evenings, it is alive with artists. When we were there, we saw puppeteers, mime artists, opera singers, folk singers and a very talented mixed choir. They perform in the narrow streets and are much appreciated by all the onlookers.

Superb shot of these wonderful details! Your cropping was a really good idea to avoid a crowd standing in front of the main entrance. Perfectly composed with a perfect symmetry. Bravo!

Hello Bev - You have presented such a finely detailed shot here, I like the close crop and symmetrical composition very much. The shot benefits, too, from your careful consideration wrt unwanted inclusions and distractions. The pretty glass window adds a nice little colour detail and contrast. A fine shot. the scene is perfectly cropped, symmetrical on all accounts.
and i like your choice of ending the photo at the very bottom middle with the horizontal line - acts like an anchor.

It seems that John has got you back into a Spanish mood with this wonderful photo. It really is an eye-popper, I love it. The details, perspective and tight framing are masterful (or is that mistressful?) and you great justice to this iconic facade with superb light management and depth.

Hello Bev,

Considering that you were facing throngs of tourists, you have chosen very well in going for this closely cropped detail of this fine building.

The symmetrical composition is very well done and the light plays nicely on this lovely façade to bring out all its sumptuous details perfectly. Lovely soft colours, good contrasts, perfect exposure and excellent sharpness.

P.S. Having never had the good fortune to visit Barcelona, I presume that this is an older cathedral and not the one designed by Gaudi and still being built?

You have certainly done this wonderful architecture justice with your chosen composition. Isn't it delightful when we go back to pictures later and they surprise us by being even better than what we appreciated at the time they were taken but- isn't that often the case- especially in a very rich scene we simply can't manage to grasp every detail. You have cropped and framed this perfectly and the detail is spot on,
