Different cities, towns and districts of Catalonia eleven held every May in a unique event to honor St. Ponç (St Pontius), patron saint of beekeepers and herbalists, where medicinal plants and all kinds of natural products with therapeutic properties are the protagonists. The legend says that, fleeing from their pursuers, Ponç came to Barcelona and, seeing so much poverty and disease among the local population began to prepare with herbs pòcimes I knew well, in order to ease the pain . The Fair

The day of the saint, Hospital street lives a very lively journey with more than two hundred street shops of intense colors and flavors. Diferentes ciudades, pueblos y barrios de Cataluña celebran cada once de mayo un evento único en honor a Sant Ponç, patrón de los herbolarios y apicultores, en el que las plantas medicinales y todo tipo de productos naturales con propiedades terapéuticas son los protagonistas. Una de las ferias más representativas de esta tradición es la que se hace en la calle Hospital de Barcelona.

La leyenda cuenta que, huyendo de sus perseguidores, Ponç llegó a Barcelona y que, al ver tanta miseria y enfermedades entre la población local, se puso a preparar las pócimas con hierbas medicinales que conocía bien, para aliviar los dolores . Esto le hizo ganar el respeto y la admiración de muchos barceloneses que a partir de ese momento comenzaron a celebrar una feria de hierbas en su honor.

La Feria

El día del santo, la calle Hospital vive una jornada muy animada con más de doscientas paradas llenas de intensos colores y aromas. Se pueden comprar hierbas medicinales y aromáticas (manzanilla, orégano, hierba luisa, menta, azahar, laurel, retama, tila, romero, mejorana o poniol) y también flores y productos del campo, como miel, arrope, queso, confitería tradicional, mermelada y fruta en almíbar o escarchadas.
