Photographer's Note

“Anis del Mono” is a popular registered trademark of anise of Spanish origin (Badalona - Barcelona). The factory was founded in Badalona the year 1870, as it indicates the label, for the brothers Bosch and Grau, managing to be one of the anisettes more important of España.1 His system of production is handcrafted, as it was in use it does more than 130 years, and that has turned this liquor into one of the most popular of the world. In the factory stand out, for his historical importance, the rooms of distillation, of modernist style, as well as the file and the office of the manager.
The monkey and Darwin:
There are several theories on " why " of the monkey.
One of them holds that there was a monkey of pet in the factory. The family Bosch had properties and business in America. One of his ships brought a monkey, which finished installed in the factory that they had close to the beach of Badalona, the brothers Vicente and Jose. The ape became very popular and the people were approaching up to the factory to see his games. This did that the company was known popularly as that of the " Anis del Mono”
Another theory says that Bosch, notarial and famous businessman, took advantage of the debate that Darwin's theories were provoking, to publicize his brand as most evolved. In the label, a primate humanoid was supporting a parchment that was proclaiming: " It is the best. The science said it and I do not lie ". This science was that Charles Darwin had publicized in 1859 with his book The origin of the species ".
Also there is a theory that holds that the face of the primate humanoid, it is that of the same Charles Darwin. This can be arranged comparing the image of the label with a photography of the naturalist. Others defend that was seeking to become discredited to the scientist. Though initially the animal did not have recognizable facial features, which was imposed by the time, is the one that had seemed with Darwin.
